Nicely done to the pilots participating in the flight over Constitution Avenue yesterday. I was standing near 7th Street and got the usual lump in the throat over both the parting salute to the President as well as the emotional impact of the formation and what it stands for. It was good to be there. Anyone know who did the mission - the 1st out of Langley?

i'm not a military guy, but i was watching on tv and the reporter said they were ANG out of N.C. But then he also called it the "single man formation"...so he could have been wrong about this too.......anyone know for sure?

Yes, nicely done to the pilots, but terrible job to the camera people, commentators, and the producers at Fox and CNN. Bad angles, missed half of the missing man, and would you please stop talking while the cool planes are flying!!

At least some of them were Mud Hens out of SJ. Not sure if they all were.

...or, as I heard it referred to on CNN, the "missing pilot formation".

Don't know if it was the Attack of the PC Police or just misspoken, but since it was CNN, I presume the former.

missing pilot?

I was fortunate enough to be part of the twenty one ship flyby on wednesday.
Definitely a flight that I will never forget.
What a great President and rolemodel.
We actually launched 28 F-15E's in case there were any problems.
Leave it to CNN to screw up the details, it is still called the missing man formation
and it is only authorized for special circumstances.
I couldn't believe the amount of effort that all of the folks put in to pull this off (mostly groundcrew)
especially in the middle off Seymour Johnson's involvement in OIF.

Bones

Bones,

Don't sweat the CNN FUBAR. That's what they do. From the ground view, the precision was incredible and like you, the crowd will never forget it. Ref the media, I have a word for you...CSPAN. They show the pics and STFU.

You 'da man.

Fox News almost got it right today, they called it the "missing man maneuver."
