Got a part 135 bud that I was talking to today and he had a situation come up where either the airworthiness or registration (can’t remember which) was missing. Seems earlier in the week when the FAA was out looking around they did not like where it was placed in the aircraft and asked that it be moved. So best they (operator) could figure someone must have moved it and forgot to tell anyone else.

Anyways the conversation sparked my curiosity and I was wondering if you are indeed missing one of these documents, how long it can take to replace them? I thought the FAA could issue an emergency ticket (same day) but does anyone have another opinion or experience with this? Thanks

Well, if you have lost, misplaced forgotten your pilot certificte, you can get a faxed copy of it, or some ducument that will serve as a temporary replacement. You have to contact the airman's records branch in Oklahoma City. THere's a fee, I think that you can get a copy pretty quickly, like the same day. I wouldn't be surprised it there is similar service for aircraft documents.

edit:

Yes, you can get a temporary registration certificate faxed to you when you apply for a replacement.

It's less clear if this can be done for an airworthiness certificate

I've seen a couple of airplanes with bad airworthiness certificates (wrong N-number). The local FSDO was abe to supply a new one on the same day.

Fly safe!

You can get an C of A by making an appt with the FSDO and walking in. I have done it the day of the call. Not a big deal.
