Military Activations at SWA

LL told me that I was invited to the 4/21 class faster than originally expected because of all the military activiations. While I am of coarse happy about going to SWA, I would have rather continued to swim in the pool instead of seeing off friends and family to the Middle East.

While it is exciting to begin working for the best airline on the planet, its important to remember our friends that have been yanked from their families and put in harmsway to fight that psycopath in Iraq.

I am glad to hear that SWA will interview those who have a deposit into HPA by March 31st. This will help my brother who has been stop lossed and had to re-schedule his class at HPA since his deplayment has been extended.

1st I have heard about the HPA deposit thing... must have missed that post!?!? What a VERY cool thing to hear!!!

Never seems to change, this company will always impress me with their willingness to do the right thing when called upon to make the hard decisions..... way to go SWA!!

Also - congRATs to Bally,Box et al for the 4/21 calls..... hope to see you at the class party in May(hopefully!)....... Have fun in DAL.

Did LL mention the class size? Is it going to be bigger than 20? I think I heard somewhere that they can train up to 25 per class if they want to. I'm just wondering if you got moved up because poolies were activated or if SWA is increasing the class size to quickly make up for the activated pilots?

I did not hear anything about class size; only that I was moved from the third class to the second due to activiations.

I do remember that at my interview, an Asst. CP gave us a tour of the training center and there were 24 new hires in class.

Classes are always even numbers, since you go through with a sim partner in the same class.

The classrooms CAN accommodate 26 desks, but the last 2 desks are shoehorned in... used when new instructors go through the class, mostly. As I remember it, 24 is the max number of students (newhires -- not instructors) that they prefer to run through per class. Sometimes smaller (20 or so), but I think 24 is the most usual class size.

Question regarding the HPA deposit. I have been trying to find out how to verify that SWA will interview those who have a deposit in by March 31st. Where did you here this??

Does anyone have a good number of the latest number of SWA pilots who have been called up? Is 81 a good number?

And does anyone have a rough guess at how many folks will remain in the pool after the 21 April Class?

Wait a minute...incoming message.....looks like Ms Cleo just sent me an e-mail suggesting more classes due to another 15 or so FOs being called up. Any words her speculation?

Don't remember where I read it but a SWA news source put the number at 85 as of yesterday.

it was 80 according to a Chief Pilot as of 3/24. I would imagine there have been or will be significantly more.

Thanks for the info. I got the call this am after working a vampire shift....my unit just got activated.

Looks like I'm going to have to get that Tivo now if I plan to see my Dawgs this fall.
