I heard over at Southern Jet in RDU they have four CRJs flying feed for USAir. Supposedly they will be ramping up to be a rather large feeder for US. But with all the stuff going on at US and the the WO/connection carriers ... who knows?
Yup, I'm furloughed with 13,000 hours. Was an F100 Captain also, not that that means much. Time doesn't matter, only who you work for, or used to work for. Midway is still bankrupt and having an apparently difficult time finding someone to put up sufficient money to get em out. Doesn't help that Mesa is snapping up flying everywhere. Nature of the industry right now. Can't last forever, can it?
midway flies for U out of DCA. They have 5-6 CRJ's up and running right now...they told mainline back in Jan that they expected to have 16 by last July. Mostly their problem is the BK and lack of funds, however Wexford Holdings gave 'em a bunch of cash back in May-Jun to stave off Midway's BK administrator from shutting the whole thing down. My guess is Midway will continue to operate at some level now since so many people have their hands in the collective kitty (ie, U/Chat/Midway).
Our mech who work on Midway's planes' in DCA say their CRJ's are in bad shape, that two more were suppose to come online however they failed their engine checks, whatever than means. I know those CRJ's sat in storage for awhile after the last BK, back in '01. The pilot's who fly them seem to be a nice bunch of guys, and their ops folks are really nice.
Midway just placed a/c #7 on the line today. They have #8 in Canada with some missing logbook issues. Apparently the next two aircraft have been identified...when they come to the line is always an exercise in extreme guesswork.
They were supposed to have 18 aircraft online by June 30. I believe they have court approval (they are still in BK) to go to about 10 aircraft. They are "in talks" about exit financing with some lendors, one of which has said they would potentially loan up to $20m.
Upon inspection of the last aircraft, one of the engines was not acceptable. That engine was replaced. While the aircraft are not coming to Midway from the factory brand new (as they once did), they are finding some that fit well. The mechanics are good people.
Good employees, both (real) Midway, and (former) U.
