I heard in mexico the fuel is not mixed is this true???

When neccessary does one need to add prist halfway through the fueling to ensure mixing?

In the Cayman Islands, they have this little clip that goes over the fuel nozzle. It sucks and takes a looooooooooooong time.

I take my own cans of prist to Mexico with me. Everytime in the past that I have gone, they had prist. However, there was this one time...

Ever since, I take cans with me. Even in Cabo, you can't be assured of getting any there. Be smart and take it with you if you fly a plane that requires it.

Also watch them put it in. It must be clipped on the nozzel and sprayed while fueling. When I was in Cabo, they had no clue how to do it. Fortunately we brought our own, and the agent translated to the line guy how to do it.

It is possible that If I had tipped, he would have remembered how to.

Jeez I was feeling all warm and fuzzy till now. I am going to Cabo next week and was talking to the handler today and he even asked how many cans of prist I would need. Guess I better take my own.

Hey SabreFlyR, I'll be there next week too! Where are you staying?

In order to ensure proper mixing you have to start the fuel flowing into the tank, then start the prist. It won't mix properly if you simply "add prist halfway through the fueling". If your airplane needs prist it's probably a good idea to carry enough for a tank or two with you - even here in the States.

what exactly does prist do? and why would one plane need it? and another not?

All turbine aircraft fuels contain some dissolved water. It cannot be extracted because it does not exist as particulate water. As the aircraft climbs to cruising altitude, the fuel cools and its capacity to retain dissolved water is reduced. Some of the dissolved water separates out as discrete water that can form into ice crystals or remain as a supercooled liquid. When supercooled water strikes a tubing bend or a filter, it can freeze quickly and block a fuel line or filter. If suspended ice crystals are present, they can also block a filter. Microbes also do quite well in jet fuel. Prist is one of several brand name aviation fuel additives that control icing in aircraft fuel by depressing the freezing point of water. They are also biocides that keep the "little green things" at bay in the aircraft fuel system.

Additives like Prist have limited solubility in jet fuel, but are completely soluble in water. When dissolved water separates from the fuel, a small amount of these additives leaves the fuel and preferentially dissolves in the water. This depresses the water's freezing point. As the fuel gets colder, and more water particles appear, more of the additive leaves the fuel and enters the water, and your aircraft's fuel lines stay clear.

The way around this? Fuel heaters. Some aircraft have them, some don’t. If the aircraft has fuel heaters then additives like Prist aren’t needed except for the occasional treatment to keep the microbes at bay. If you’re fling an airplane like a Lear 35, that doesn’t have fuel heaters, you need to make sure that all of the fuel you purchase either has the additives pre-blended, or is blended at the truck, or is blended at the fueling nozzle.

Aircraft with the heaters only need the occasional treatment to keep the little green fuel microbes at bay. We typically get enough treated fuel as a matter of course so as to never have to worry about it.

Prist!??!?!?! We Don't Need No Stinking Prist!!!

You must fly a REAL airplane!

Was in Cabo last week. Sorry NO BEER LEFT!!!

$96/night ALL inclusive - need I say more?
@ the Crown Plaza beach resort

Bring your own prist. watch them put it in and try not to laugh. They are not very careful about not getting it on themselves. Their kids will probably have too many fingers or something.

If you like fishing try the Mago Valley. 33ft boat in cabo marina. Captain's name is Jaime - We caught some mighty big Dorados.
$350 for half a day.
Just dont agree to get it mounted - lots of extra charges in the fine print.
Have fun

I'll be down in two weeks, so don't drink the place dry.
Sabre, are you out of Wyoming?

I used to fly a Kansas based 65,but spent most of our time in Driggs,ID. The owners lived in Jackson Hole. Out of Louisiana now in a Beeechjet.

We'll be there for 4 days, I will try to be good and leave a little something to sip on for your arrival, but it never seems to work. Being good that is.:D

I'm staying at one of the Pueblo Bonito properties.

Anyone else going? I'll be at Rip's Bar and Grill (small sidewalk bar in front of Cabo Wabo) on Tuesday night if any flightinfo members are down there. Look for the girl with the rainbow shots (and a husband). Sabreflyer, look me up!

Sabre, I thought you were somebody else because of your avatar, the landscape looks fimiliar (flat-land).
It is just about impossible to be a good boy while in Cabo, so I just quit trying!
I'll be down the last few days of Feb, probably stay four days.
Everybody, have a good one....

I took that shot in Lawrence Kansas last march. It was a couple weeks after getting it out of the paint shop.
