Taxiing into CLE the other day, we go past a large piece of construction equipment with a huge mexican flag on it. It was parked right next to the C concourse where all the pax can see it. I was very offended, especially as there are no American flags anywhere near the C concourse. Just wondered if anybody else gets pissed off seeing this?

Nope. Don't really care. Want to buy a crane and put an American flag on it? Go ahead. When you say there wasn't an American flag around anywhere, what about the one that was painted on your a/c? And there must have been one in front of the entrance to the airport. Would it have changed your opinion at all if it was an Italian flag? Irish? I realize immigration is something of a hot-button issue right now, but I also dig the whole freedom of speech idea. Now if you wanted to say, let's no longer treat illegals at our hospitals for free while American citizens w/o health care coverage are left to bleed out and die, that I could get behind.

PO'ed? No. Irritated? Yes.

Actually...

That's an Italian flag. The reason it's on there is beacuse the founder and CEO, Anthony Allega is Italian.

What's that old saying??

It's better to keep your mouth shut and let everyone assume that you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove that you're an idiot.......

Not that an Italian flag is necessarily any more appropriate under the circumstances.

Wow, that's really embarassing. Mexican, Italian, whatever. They have stripes and colors... pretty much all the same.

Seriously, the reason it isn't offensive as an Italian flag, while it would be were it a Mexican flag is the attitudes. The Italians had their day being the immigrants who didn't speak English and so on, but it just seems as if the attitude of the immigrants from the South is much more threatening. There seems to be much more an attitude of entitlement.

The simple fact remains; if you don't have a green card or any of the other required necessities, you are here illegally. It is a crime (illegal) to be here, no two ways about it. I don't get what's so hard to understand about that. That's all I'm stuck on.

Last I checked it was a free country. If someone wants to fly the flag of a friendly nation who cares? You guys that xenophobic? I'd suggest getting a life.

Living up to his(original poster's) online name....

I agree. The ILLEGAL immigration debate is being moulded into an 'immigrants RIGHTS' debate.
There doesn't seem to be much as much willingness to assimilate now as there was in the past. Spanish: TV, radio, billboards, language semi- 'mandatory' , etc. etc.

Well, besides being a bigot you are also a prime example of how poor our public school system is. You can't tell the difference between an Italian and a Mexican flag.

People in most parts of the world speak a minimum of two languages and are well versed in global government. You are prime example of one who is ethnocentric. I am guessing you have no idea what that is, so go look it up.

Once again embarrassed by, and embarrassed for a fellow American.

Maybe if we put some pressure on American companies to stop abusing and exploiting workers in the maquiladores then some of the incentive to cross the border would be removed.

Yeah, their native language and English (the most popular language in the world).:)

English, not American, do you actually understand the difference.

Loco:rolleyes:

P.S. The most POPULAR, or widely SPOKEN? Popular, well that would be debatable, and as for SPOKEN? Chinese by the year 2010 will be the most widely SPOKEN.

if you have a problem with Mr. Allega's crew flying the Italian flag on their equipment I can probably get you his number so you can take it up with him directly. Although on second thought Perhaps Jimmy Allega would make for a more colorful conversation. I could care less what flag Allega flies as long as they pay taxes and contribute to the American economy.

You got me there, an American just can't make it in this world knowing only "American" English. I try to drop my hip-hop vernacular when I travel abroad but it's very difficult. Seems you can take me out of the 'hood, but you can't take the 'hood out of me.:pimp:

Peace.

P.S. Chinese may be the most popular as well as the most widely spoken. A billion people can't be wrong.:D

In all fairness to the guy, if the wind isn't blowing and you can't see the chickenhawk on it, the Mexican flag does look like the Italian flag.

Just like the flags of Texas and North Carolina look identical when they're hanging with no breeze. Or the flags of Austria and Denmark. Or how in poor light the flags of Ireland and Italy look almost identical.

Or how in the dark, France's flag looks just like a plain white flag. ;)
