Ive considered mesa due to being a couple hundred hours short on multi to apply at Netjets. A friend of mine at Netjets suggested that I just suck it up at mesa for the year then move on.

Not knowing too much about mesa other than what I read on here, would that really be a bad idea and are they going out of business etc...

With 3200 hrs why would you go to mesa? Even if it is for only a year you can do much better. What's your multi time? There are pleny of places that are hiring with next to no multi time. I question this so called "friend" if he's telling you to work at mesa haha. He might as well be telling you "yea man..it's only one stiff dog....go ahead...everybody's doin it!"

I considered them not my friend. I live in Phoenix and would like to stay here for awhile. My multi is just over 100 hrs. and Ive been away from flying for awhile. Any suggestios on other companies???

Yes, anywhere but mesa. That's my suggestion.

These are of course only suggestions; but, airlines that come to mind with Phoenix domiciles are Great Lakes and SkyWest. Granted with Lakes you'll be bound to (I believe) a 15 month contract and make peanuts.

Another place that bases in Phoenix that you may want to take a look at is Ameriflight. Don't know too much about what goes on over there and how long it will take you to get into some multi-engine equipment; but, it is worth an inquiry on the cargo board.

But for the love of god stay away from Mesa. Not only for yourself but for the industry. Every little minion that applies to JO is one more person keeping that place alive. I understand that you need the multi time; but, it's for reasons like that people are going there and allowing his planes to take to the skies everyday.

Skyw doesn't have a PHX base.

You will NOT be able to be based in PHX within a year if you go to Mesa. It is the most senior base. Even when you do finally get it, you will be Junior Assigned TDY to IAD, JFK or ORD all of the time. If you get the CRJ you will end up in JFK or IAD, if the the ERJ then ATL, MCO or JFK, the Dash, DEN and the 1900...who knows. You have no choice of aircraft when you get hired. I wanted the Dash 8 or the 1900 and got the CRJ. Don't go to Mesa, not even for a year. The way things are going, it may not even be around that long.

I would lie in my log book before working for "Hilter"

Fly freight out of PHX for ameriflight if you don't want to commute and want to make more $$. Other options will require you to commute, even Mesa.

Since upgrade is not a consideration try Eagle, Comair, or Expressjet. Upgrade there is not the fastest, however they have the best starting pay, best training, and respectable work rules. They'll have one-leg commutes to most of their bases too.

None of the above airlines have training contracts, if that is a consideration.

STAY AWAY FROM MESA!!

You will not get PHX as a base as a newhire.

You will get some of the worst training in the industry.

You will get the smallest paycheck, outside of Lakes.

You will be tied to a training contract.

You will be treated like dirt by Mesa.

Good Luck

Lakes no longer has a PHX base. The parts about the 15 month contract and the pay are right, though. But please, for the love of all that's holy, do NOT go to Mesa. None of the regionals have a PHX base that you could get anytime soon. If your goal is getting the quick multi in PHX, then Ameriflight is probably your best choice.
