I wish MESA would flame away!! I was just going thru my old flight case from my ACA days and found quite a bit of anti-mesa stickers. Id rather the company go under (as they eventually did), then become part of that scumbag operation!!!!!

Didint mean to go away from the original question, but the guy above me answered it.

The way things are going over there you may get your wish.

No. The first airplane is broke in ANC. Couldn't even make it halfway there. Flame away.

Yikes.

In my country we have problem...

And that problem is JO...

+50 points to anyone who can write the next couple lines, if you know what it's in reference to. :D

Just curious,
Has there been much discussion over the liability of a Mesa pilot if he makes a mistake while flying in China. Safe to say they have diferent rules and ways of treating people over there. After what happened in Brazil, I would be concerned flying for someone like JO in a foriegn country. If you have a problem, somehow I can't see Mesa (judging from what I've heard) going to bat for you.

I had a long talk with ALPA’s lead lawyer about this very issue a few years ago. You may recall there was also a case of a pilot flying out of Japan was accused of the equivalent of manslaughter by the Japanese government because a flight attendant died from injuries associated with clear air turbulence. Luckily he got off, but the ordeal went on for over a year. With this China deal, you have 3 things working against you (and keep in mind, the specifics of how the operation will behave haven’t even been worked out yet):

1. China is a communist country with it’s own way of dealing with situations like this. China’s aviation infrastructure is over-burdened and I understand Chinese ATC is switching to English soon. There will be mistakes. Mesa will have relatively young, junior captains paired with Chinese FO’s who they will have difficulty communicating with. Hell, they don’t even have manuals or a start date yet.
2. Mesa isn't obligated to back you, especially if it’s going to cost them money. They will write you off as a cost of doing business, as they won’t want to tick off the Chinese government. The only plus is that WASINC is handling the HR side, so they might have better luck than Mesa would. Mesa is hiring based on WASINC’s advice.
3. ALPA can’t protect you. Last I heard, the pilots won’t be paying ALPA dues and ALPA’s reach doesn’t extend to China in a case like this. It’s further confusing because the China pilots will remain on the seniority list and have the right to return to Mesa after the two year period. This hasn’t been worked out completely yet, and I’m sure it’s not going to unchallenged.

The advice I got was to leave the country as soon as possible if something happens. Even if it isn’t your fault. The same is true if you get seriously sick. You can sort out the details later. It's a gamble I certianly would never take.

Mesa will NOT go away. The man who runs it is WAY too smart and a shrewd businessman.

You guys [ACA] were stupid and let’s just guess who ‘went away’?

You [ACA] did!

You guys should’ve accepted the terms given to you by United. You didn’t because your EGOES were a bit too much for the meager salaries you drew.

If you had accepted the ‘terms’ like NWA pilots did…you might have been in business!

::pops the popcorn::

Front row seats for this one!

How is it that a country that has LEGAL SLAVE LABOR in it's society chooses an American based regional airline because it's a better financial model in their economy.

Shaheen

Looks like we have ourselves an air-whore here. Some people don't care what they get paid-some people can just ask mommy and daddy for some more bucks.....
I absolutely despise self-serving idiots like this "shaheen" here. Perhaps daddy can just give him some more bucks in lieu of the pay one would normally expect from an actual job.
-Lets all just lower the bar until this fool is the only one left.....
-You suck!

Exactly Jmoney!!! Just goes to show the types of people that MESA attracts. Im so very glad that we went under over working for a SH!TTY company like that. I honestly would rather collect the unemployment check, welfare (though they qualify also), then a check with the their name on it. More money also. United didnt want to pay us what we deserved to get paid, so we went on our own. And we certainly were not gonna whore ourselves out like those F#ck bags from MESA. Things didnt work out for us, but Im much happier that things turned out this way over what could've been if MESA had taken over. That shaheen is one POS, but I laugh knowing where he is. So I guess the jokes on him!!!:p

JO and China were made for each other. Cutrate maintenance, inexperienced crews, regulatory corruption, and incompetence, combined with really scary terrain and a crude air traffic control system could well make for interesting headlines.
