A guy came into the flight school at which I work thinking he was hot #@%$ wearing a cool Mesa jacket and said that he was leaving Flight Express for a captain slot at Mesa. Is it true that they would hire a street captain into a prop. His reasoning was that no one at Mesa wanted to upgrade into the prob in hopes for jets. I was just wandering if this douchbag was telling the truth.

Yep, likely telling the truth. Mesa has been putting new hires into the left seat of the Dash.

JumpPilot,

You've got to be kidding me?!?!? First of all I think you need to rethink what you just said. The guy you are talking about I know personally. I was in initial training with him at Flight Express two years ago. He is an exceptional pilot and probably has more skill in his fingernail than you have in your entire body. Before you go off calling someone that you don't know a douchbag why don't you go out and get a couple thousand hours single pilot IFR 135 PIC time. Let me guess, you think they should have hired you for that street captain spot with your 1100 hours? No, I am not defending MESA, only my friend.

I was pretty offended by the name calling as well. Unfortunately, this is the level flightinfo.com has been lowered to for quite a while now.

The dash captains I believe were mostly furloughed captains and pilots with high time. From what I hear it takes a lot to fly the dashs, because of their locales... Why the jealousy, would you rather it be that you are the only one allowed to fly?

Wow, Mesa has'nt done that for years! I'm glad to see this industry rebounding and providing opportunities again.

LOL, Great, 2 month upgrades!!!! Hope we don't have another "Good around is no option brief in ROA: followed by a landing that about broke the tail off" What I remember is that she was a new Capt. upgrade on the RJ after only flying right seat in the 1900!!!!!!
I am sure the public would love to know that there crew is that inexperienced.... Scary...

Sorry fellas, I should have know how he flys just by talking to him. With my time I havnt even applied to the regionals. Skilled or not, I was commenting on his condescending (sp) attitude towards us as flight instructors.

Sounds like you and your friend share the same condescending attitude. It's no wonder he elicited such a harsh reaction.

I don't condone jumppilot03's initial choice of labels, but I can identify with his sentiment.

I don't think the super-fast upgrades are the best thing for safety. I had about 2300 hours when I got to ACA, thought I was so darn good. I found out quickly that there is much to airline flying. I think that nobody needs to go heading off to that CA seat until they have learned how to be an FO. Especially us West Coasters who have no idea what weather really is.

I'll say it again...

Mostly furloughed UAL, National, a couple regional guys, a couple navy guys, 2 former Mesa dash captains, a D.E, and the guy previously mentioned.

Not off the street CFIs.

15 started, 2 washed so far....

Not a walk in the park.

Thanks for your concern.... though

The Flight Express pilot you are talking about is a friend of mine. We were based at the same airport for almost 2 years.

in the next few months alot of turbo prop fo's will be going to jet capt, that will be safe, most have 0 jet time going over to left seat!!!!

If anything would make it dangerous it would be a lack of experience in a new airframe, not the type of engines it has. Jets are easier to fly than props.

This happens every day at ACA, ASA, Horizon, PSA and any other airline that has both props and Jets. The fact is that MOST prop FO's at Mesa go to prop CA due to the much faster upgrade, then to jet CA down the road. Jet CA is running 4 yrs right now so the prop FO's are not newbie's to airline flying. -Bean
