1900 employees out of a job because of Mesa CEO Jonathan G. Ornstein. Anybody think he gives a damn about those 1900 people while his CFO has a problem with porn on company computers?

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Aloha Airlines is shutting down its passenger operations less than two weeks after the Honolulu-based company filed for bankruptcy protection as a court seeks buyers for its remaining units.

Aloha has said its demise stemmed from "predatory pricing" from Mesa Air Group's (MESA.O: Quote, Profile, Research) low-cost go! airline. Mesa, whose shares rose 3 percent, was not immediately available to answer those claims on Monday.

Aloha said late on Sunday that Monday would be the last day for its passenger operations. The shutdown will affect about 1,900 employees

Check out the Majors thread about it. At the time of the announcement a Mesa captain reportedly hopped out of the airplane in Kona with his arms high over his head, obviously proud of this "achievement". I hope everyone at Mesa is proud. I'm sure in some way they are.

He had to put his hands in the air because he couldn't mess up his "hair gel" or touch the ear phones while listening to his iPod! What a shame for Hawaii!

Mesa Sucks

MESA ******************************bags....Dragging down the entire industry with its pathetic pilot contracts and its crews. NObody should ever hire these clowns...make them live in the filth they've created!

And if this account is true, with employees like these, the Mesas of the world will always be around...

Very difficult to believe.

If it's true, he's definitely a ******************************bag.

I think every one of them are s************bags as you put it. They deserve ZERO respect from anyone. A disease in this industry!

Guys,

I know this is a sensitive subject and emotions are on overload today, but please watch the language and creative spelling as well as the threats....

Thank you.

Longhorn

I think Mesa pilots as a whole aren't bad. They're just pilots looking to build time to move on to the big time; it's a time honored practice, and the ranks of the majors and the legacies are full of them.

Nor can you hold the Go! pilots directly responsible. Pilots don't pick the routes their businesses fly.

Now any Go! or Mesa pilot who revels in the demise of Aloha . . . they're pretty lame, to say the least. Karma is a "you know what" though, and they'll learn, someday.

Im sorry Longhorn..let me rephrase.... Anybody who has a problem with the PILOT group at MESA, you can find me in JFK at gate 25 in the delta terminal. WE can discuss there...

ahhhh....much better, thanks man

This lame mentality is and has destroyed this industry and has damaged more than just about anyone the airline pilot profession in recent times. Mesa has destroyed ACA, Aloha, and significantly altered Air Wisconsin which barely flies to the state. That's a unethical track record considering they did with a horrendous pilot contract along with illegal practices from their management. Choosing to work there because you want to just "move on to the big time" is terrible and bad karma. This isn't the days of the puddle jumpers anymore. Mesa is doing major airline flying and doing it unethically.

Why would I fly all the way over there to call you a dirtbag? I can do it from here just as easily.

Unfortunately, it was the pilots of the major carriers who should have fought the good fight to keep the 50, 70, and 90 seat jets away from small lift providers. They know it, too.

The traditional route of flying marginal aircraft in bad weather carrying paychecks to build time has pretty much disappeared because of technological advances (electronic banking). This pretty much left three choices to build time for a major: the military, the so-called "regionals", and flight instructing for 10 years.

I don't know of a single "regional" that doesn't routinely get slammed on this website. Mesa gets trashed more than most (deservedly), but the fact remains that all regional flying has "lowered the bar" for legacy/major QOL and pay.

But there's also no other real way for an aspiring pilot to build a resume that will attract a job at that major.

You must be kidding or intoxicated.

-less than 9 days off a month when just about every other airline is at a minimum of 11

-90 seater pay rates less than many so called "regionals" 50 seat rate

-no overtime pay for those 3 hour taxis

-some pilots jumpseating in place of deadheading between mainland and the islands

It's just depressing to see an airline like Aloha suspend operations when faced against this kind of competition. Yea, that's a bit horrendous.
