I, along with 400+ others, just got an email from Mesa asking to fill out an application packet. Reading through the instructions, they are asking for a $50 application "processing" fee. Has this been standard practice or is this new?

While this is probably a futile request, I ask that Mesa bashing be kept to a minimum. We can all read the other threads about the "evil empire."

yeah i received the same thing about the 50 dollar fee. they want a money order only i think. im not sure if im going to do it or not.

The instructions say check or money order. Regardless, this is the first I've heard of it. Are they just trying to get an easy 50 bucks from some sap suckers or do those who apply have a chance. I've got applications out everywhere and this is the first response I've gotten.

50 bucks to work for a bottom feeding scumbag with a bunch of other bottom feeding scumbacgs that let him do it.

I sent this application in with the 50 dollar check about 7 months ago but have never heard any reply. Now I hear that they are hiring like crazy so I went ahead and sent the entire package in again. They have never cashed the checks, so I dont know if they do it only after offering you an interview or what? I need a job offer soon, hopefully it will come.

It's not new, they have been doing it for at least four years. I don't think they cash the check until you interview, but I could be mistaken.

Just a little help from a friendly bottom feeder.

Thanks for the info. I hope they dont cash it till interview or if I get an interview because I had to switch bank accounts since the first application. I guess I will just keep waiting.

Let's see....I don't see too many questions or complaints about the $60 that ATA charges to apply. Or the $100 that AA used to charge when they were accepting applications.

Oh wait....these are MAJOR airlines, so then I guess it's ok. Sounds a bit hypocritical to me. Aren't many of you the same ones that come on here day in and day out to remind us there is no difference in major and regional airline pilots? We are all AIRLINE PILOTS? While I agree with that argument, it just makes my point about the hypocricy I mentioned earlier.

The facts are that everyone, just like most everyone else in society, is doing what they think is best for himself or herself. They do and fight for what most benefits THEM (yeah....you too, Surplus).

And Surplus 1...you can save it. I've heard it a gazillion times. Once more isn't going to change anything. Thank you.

i think they use the $50 to cover their expenses of the background checks, etc.

just a guess though.

OK...I'll complain...it's flat out wrong to charge people to apply for a job. It's a misuse of power to grab a few bucks from people that want to come work for you.

they do cash the check

I sent in the 50.00 and the packet some 9 months to a year ago. They do cash the check but mine was not cashed till about 4 months after I sent it in.

I applied a couple years back without sending the app fee, interviewed, and was offered the job (didn't end up accepting it). Maybe you can just "forget" it like I did?

Well I guess that explains why I was never called. I moved and had to close the account before the check was cashed. I should have sent a money order.
