Does anyone know how Mesa determines what aircraft you get?

Is it bid in class, or is it known before hand? If before hand, do they tell you before you get to Training?

I hear somepeople getting the Dash are getting quick upgrades?

How do they select the people for the Dash?

Just looking for options to move back west......

IP076,
Wanting to move back west, is this for PBC or the Grill by any chance?

Dang, I miss that little podunk-whitebread-pissant-mountain town!!

Quick is not really accurate... Immeadiate is more like it..

The current Dash class contains 15 of the 85 January new hires... We are getting typed in initial and will be upgraded most likely within a few weeks of IOE... As far as I know this class is the first time they have done such a thing and I'm not sure if they plan to do it again with the next class (maybe maybe not). It may have to do with a combination of company need and whether we succeed...

Our class ranges in age from about 25-50 with the median age somewhere around 35. All have ATPs with approx. 2500+ hours.. (There are a couple exceptions, but they have ATP writtens and well abouve the required ATP mins). Most have 121 experience with several furloughed United, including several former military... A couple guys even have DHC-8 Types and were former Mesa Dash Drivers..

The jet classes are made up of a HUGE diversity of folks, from San Juaners to 1000 Hr CFI's to furloughed 747-400 drivers from UAL.

By the way, I believe ALL DHC-8 drivers are going to DEN.

I guess 747 FO at United was going pretty Junior if they couldnt grab a 737 FO spot.

What are the chances of someone right at 1000 with over 600 multi and 300 turbine? ATP written taken back in summer of 2001.

I notice it's posted that all have ATP's except a few exceptions but they have well above ATP mins.

Well, you'll need the ATP to be a Capt... That is Per (obvious) regs...

It's hard to say what they will assign you... Most folks with that kinda time got the jets... It basically ALL depends on need... As for the current class, I'm not sure how we got picked for this... I believe it's mostly due to everyone's previous 121 experience.... Sure getting CA pay is nice, but being a CA is a HUGE responsibility as well as big time challenge in initial... BIG time challenge... With less then an ATP or some good 121 time, it's deffinately important to sit right seat for a good while..

Yes the 74-400 aparently DID go junior at UAL... I know for sure of 3 guys in Mesa GS now who flew that equipment at UAL.. Then again they furloughed back nearly 4 years..

I'd say your chances are good.

I interviewed with a little under 1200TT 800mult/700turbine +/- in November.

Upgrades at Air Midwest are fast. Folks one class ahead of my group are approx. 20 seniority numbers from upgrade (hard to determine for sure because of all the San Juan folks who were hired with 300 hours).

Unless you've been flying 121/135, I doubt your ATP written is still valid. Besides it'll be good to refresh if you are going to take the Mesa written.

As far as aircraft assignments go...your guess is as good as mine. However during my interview, I was asked "if I'd take the B1900 over the jet for the quick upgrade". I'm sure it's due to my turbine 121/135 experience, but maybe not. I'm still 250 hours away from ATP mins. so we'll see.

This is a personal issue, PIC turbine...albeit at a tiny outstation or SIC jet for 3+ years. (There is no right answer)

Good luck!

What about JOE's! or is that too PC for you?

Give Lakes a shout, I'm not quite to Preskitt but Denver is close, so long KY.

Snow days

God I miss getting paid a full 8 hours when it would snow and the flightline would shut down! It was really a lot of fun up in Preskitt. Everyone would show up at our house with a bunch of Bailey's and Coors. Those were the good old days! Nothing like crackin' beers open at 10AM on a Tuesday morning.

You would make more money than working a 10-12hour day with a full schedule and we would all mosey on downtown. I have to admitt as an IP there we were so spoiled. :p

I wouldn't trade what I'm doing now to go back to instructing but that was for sure the place to be!

Cheers:p
