I know there are a couple of guys on this board that fly for the various contractors that fly out of DAY for Menlo. My questions for them are how many total aircraft are used in that operation and what types are used? Also how many international destinations are there? Any routes to Canada, Mexico or Latin America?

The latest info on Menlo that we are hearing is that UPS has till the middle of this December to run Menlo with contractors, after that they will have to use IPA crews. According to the chief pilot, UPS is studying the current Menlo route structure trying to figure out how much volume they can integrate into the existing UPS system and how much lift will be required for the volume that cannot be integrated. Supposedly the spare 727 and DC-8 aircraft will feature prominently in the new operation out of DAY.

This expansion into DAY should create the need for many more new crewmembers in addition to the announced newhires that are mainly for international growth and retirements.

Just what exactly is stupid or flamebait about my post? If you don't have anything constructive to add, then don't bother posting. I'm serious in wanting to know more about the operation out of DAY, as it will play an important part of UPS' expansion plans.

You should ask this "rhoid" guy that likes to post here. He's the resident expert and grand poobah of all things UPS-especially when it comes to getting a good understanding of what's going on with the Menlo operation.

You didn't say anything stupid, but you may want to do a search on this board on Menlo. A few folks "got all bowed up" last time it came up.
Best regards,

You planning on adding HAZMAT training to the regimen over there at UPS? If not... You'll be leaving a lot of that Menlo stuff to the lowly contractors.

Ohhhhhhhkay. News to me, but okay.

Menlo's airlift is usually around 30-35 airplanes. Maybe about 22-25 727's, 3-4 300's, 1-2 8's, 2-3 10's/11's, and an occasional 747. International routes are usually Brussels, Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, Chihuahua, Guadalajara & San Juan (if you consider that international).

Just curious how info from this site is going to play an important role in UPS expansion. You obviously aren't management or you would know the airlift. I haven't worked out of DAY since 12/24 but most of the pilots thought they only had about a year or so left of the Menlo flying. Haven't heard anything different since.

Thanks for the info. What I meant was that UPS taking over flying out of DAY would be important in that it will lead to expanding the airline and expanding the crewforce, both of which are very good news.

Sure, if you work for UPS.
