Is anyone here member of one of the McChord C17 squadrons? A very good friend of mine (furloughed UAL F/O) is an A/C over there, and I havent heard from him in a while, I assume he's playing in the sandbox, but I'd like to know for sure.

PM me

From my experience over there (last March through July), there were no permanently assigned C-17's in theater. Most were flying out of places like Germany, dropping off and heading back. Now, much has changed since I was there so that may have all changed too. They are more Strat than tactical and will be doing much of the big hauls and letting the Herk do the short hauls.

Your pal might be deployed but may not actually be "in theater". I hope he is not.

You are correct. They deploy to Germany and somewhere in the middle east waiting for the call to pick up or drop something up.
