How do most rated officers finish their master's degree while flying? Does it matter what kind of degree you get? Also, what kind of tuition assistance is available to officers? Thanks.

All bases have an education office that will steer you in the right direction, and most have undergraduate and graduate programs through different universities. Embry Riddle has remote campuses at just about every base I can think of - I'm currently enrolled in the UK with them.

It doesn't matter what type of degree you get.

There is currently a 100% tuition reimbursement. I don't know if it's AF wide, or specific to a certain region, but that's what I'm using.

I assume you're active duty?

Anybody know if similar opportunities are available for Reserve folks?

As a pilot, do you find that your schedule allows you to attend classes at night, or would you reccommend an online format?

Also, can rated officers pursue a degree through AFIT?

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I'm active duty. I don't know what the conditions are for reserve guys, but if you call the education office at your nearest base, I'm sure they can tell you.

The classes I've taken through ERAU have been either at night or on the weekend, both of which have worked just fine for me. I have never taken online classes, but from what I hear, they're kind of a pain in the butt.

I think the best people to ask would be the folks at AFIT. However, it is my understanding that a rated officer can pursue a master's at AFIT. I think the only thing is that what you get your master's in (or if the USAF will even allow you in a class) depends on the needs of the USAF.
