We have a trip going there in 2 weeks. Anything tricky about flying in there or is it pretty straight forward? We will be there for 4 nights and looking for interesting things to do.

Thx

Was there last September, during the off season. There was a hurricane brewing and the boss decided to split and head elsewhere after a couple days, almost everything was closed and the place was a ghost town.

The runway is somewhat ruff with a few small pot holes that I noticed while taxing for departure. The FBO was very good and has customs available onsite.

The only thing is the condition of the runway. It's not the worst in the Bahamas (they just closed stella maris for that purpose!). Also, know that people will land on one side and take off from the other side, they do that frequently other there, so no back taxi on the RWY...
Nothing really tricky, just a few commuters/GA/charters going in and out. I like to advise at least 20 NM out when I go there.
Now, if you have time, go have a drink at the Abaco resort, then take the boat ferry to Hope Town (nice little island), you can also go visit Dead man's cay (no alcohol there)...
Don't forget to try the Cracked Conch and bring back some Bahamian bread (Yummy!), fresh Conch salad, and some lobster tails. The US customs won't say anything if you go clear them in Florida.

If you have any questions, PM me.

Jerom is right on a lot of his items. Bring a bathing suit and sandals. Abaco has no rules requiring "shirts and shoes required for service". Very laid back -- the way islands were 30+ years ago. Not a "hip" place but a relaxing island. Ask for Donnie at Cherokee Aviation for good FBO serivce. Also, post on the fractional board. NJA, Flex and Flops now go there many times per week.

Have plenty of cash for all of the fees.

We went out there about a year and a half ago. We stayed at this place on Gunana Key called the Guana Seaside Village. It's run by Americans. The rates were reasonable, it was clean and the food was good. Not much to do on the island except swim, drink and sleep. Oh yeah, they can make booze look like food on your bill if you need it shown that way. Guana Key is about a 45 minute boat ride from Marsh.

If you want to actually stay on the main island, there is the Grand Abaco beach Resort which is great. They've got hammocks strung between coconut palms, and free use of the sea kayaks and beach equipment. Food is expensive at the resort, but there are a number of cool bars/grills along the main strip. We met some interesting locals too. Great place, not touristy like Nassau/Freeport. If we'd stayed longer I would have rented a boat and gone exploring.

The airport...bluffs on the east side. Pavement quality makes takeoffs an excruciating journey to Vr, but not the worst runway out there, as someone said. Cherokee Air does a great job. If you are not getting a car, a taxi will have to take you to the hotel and it's around $15, cash only. If you stay in town you really don't need a car. You can walk everywhere and there are rental bikes/mopeds there too. Plus you shouldn't drive after all of those Kaliks anyway.

Got to be one of the single best pieces of information ever on the forum...

Hawker800

No traffic control so keep your head out of the cockpit. Can be very busy there. Ground traffic will back taxi on RW9 so watch this also. Rough runway. Customs and Imigration is a cash only operation so bring enough for entry and departure fees. Tips for the baggage and line crews are in order also. Especially if you want your passengers to clear through easy. Both FBO's are good. On departure contact Miami at 6,000ft. Life will be alot easier. Have a good time.
