Well, I have lived in Maine quite awhile actually, but I have not become very familiar with flying jobs in Maine. Anyway - I really do need some info on Maine Aviation other than what the company will be telling me.
I (121 furlough) am starting to consider stopping the chase for this crazy career of successful airline pilot. I am considering settling down in Portland / Sebago and working for Maine Aviation permanently. I am most interested in quality of life DETAILS like upgrades, hours flown / year, days off etc (not relative terms such as "good" , "really sux", etc. which don't really mean much). In other words, I am not 21. And I have other responsibilities than myself (and xbox)!!!
I do appreciate any info you can provide. PM me if you want.
I didn’t know this outfit until I went for the interview.
I have a similar total time (no jet, but plenty of twin engine- single pilot 135) and he (forgot his name) wanted to put me in the C-310 and C414 (I think that's what they have) for an unspecified period time.
I now think he just wanted to “use” me for the summer.
He would not answer my questions about upgrading at all.
Oh, the pay was the best joke; approx. $17.000 a year with some benefits and he wanted me within half an hour of the airport. He did tell me; I can’t hire you if your wife isn’t working because you won’t be able to afford living here!!!!!!!!
When there's a vacancy, you go right seat Cit or Hawker and are typed - with a 2 year lockin to the company -then - you upgrade possibly out of seniority order only on your plane. So if there's a Cit FO hired after you, and you're in the hawker, and a Cit Capt leaves - the other guy gets the UG. They want to avoid paying for 2 training events. This didn't jive with his story of how they only want to upgrade from within and his strict commitment to seniority. That was a big hole in his story. Sounds like they want hig time people to fly the pistons.
In the end he couldn't assure me of much of anything.
2 hours from callout to wheels in the well.
I didn't even get around to asking about pay - I wanted to know when I might upgrade - and like previous post he said he didn't know.
Not bad for someone looking for some multi piston, but I never asked what the hiring mins were.
