According to the Jeppesen Private Pilot Manual, the magnetic compass has the magnet on the "south side" of the float. This was their explaination of what lead to Acceleration/Deceleration error.
In Deremer's book, Aircraft Systems for Pilots, he describes the mag compass as having two magnets, one at the 360 mark and one at the 180 mark. Would this offset the effect of acceleration error? (other than the effects related to magnetic dip)
Does one of these books describe it wrong? Are there two types of Mag Compasses out there?
