Whats the latest at MAC? Hiring Caravan pilots? If so, what are the chances of flying one of the GSO routes? ATR info in NC would also be appreciated. Thx in advance.

Let's see, last I heard, we actually needed 3 guys in
GSO. I have no info about the ATR.

I'd advise getting in the Van first, higher pay.
You can go to the ATR later.

I second crimson's statement about GSO definately go to Caravan first with the company wide pay increase pay now starts at 34K.

Van is what I would prefer. Info on the interview and training and would like to hear from any MAC GSO guys/gals also if possible. Are there just two van runs to/from GSO? Whats going to happen when the FedEx facility opens? Thanks.

The van should be a secure position.
Opening a hub facility would just make it more secure.

Expect questions like:
Are you willing to relocate? Always say yes.
Can you operate independently? More of the same.

The sim is a PC sim of a complex single that has a
sensitive roll rate. 1st Takeoff power failure. 2nd
takeoff to a hold, VOR intercept and teacking and
then to an off airport VOR approach. The course
changes when you pass over the VOR so remember
to change the OBS. Don't bust minimums (obvious)
and they don't expect you to land the airplane
without crashing, it's THAT sensitive on the roll.
If you actually do land properly, bonus!

There is a gouge for the interview somewhere
around here. Someone else will need to find the
link.

Good luck

Right now there is only one regular 208 run left out of GSO. I think they are still looking for GSO floaters though.

Ok. Im confused on the floater deal. Does everyone hired into the van become a floater first. What does the floater do...ie, typical schedule? If you are a GSO floater, where, when, and what do you fly? Also, does everyone get per diem at MAC? If there is only one regular van run out of GSO, will there be more if they can find guys to do it? By the way, why is there an ATR and a van run to ILM and previously to EWN? Was it because of volumn or because of what was being hauled? Sorry for all the questions...just trying to get a handle for the operation. Thanks in advance.

When there is a need and they can't find anyone internally they will hire van pilots off the street for floater and fixed base positions. Only the floaters get $32.50 perdiem per day plus $60 floater pay per week. As a GSO floater you will fly mostly all the runs North of Florida.
Florida has their own small group of floaters.

Monday morning/afternoon you airline or drive to where you will fly that week. Most of the runs start around 7pm on Monday, fly 30 minutes to an hour. Stay overnight in a hotel and around 6 am you'll do the same thing in the other direction. During the day you will also stay in a hotel when you are off duty. This mostly ends Saturday morning around 8-9 am and then you drive or airline home. I get home mostly between 12 and 4 pm. You realistically have only Sunday off.

Do this 4 weeks in a row and you get a week off. This is now on the schedule and is guaranteed. If for some reason you have sim training that week or they need you to work and you agree, you get paid double.

No more regular van runs even with more GSO based pilots, this can change overnight if Fedex deems it necessary. Both the EWN and ILM ATR runs have vans backing them up. Only difference is that the EWN van is based in EWN and flies evenings and mornings whereas the ILM van only flies out in the morning from GSO and deadheads back to GSO as soon as the cargo is offloaded. ILM van does maintainace flights during the day when the need arises(twice a week on average).

I would think long and hard to come here as a floater. If you can get a regular run it's a great job but floating is an aquired taste. You can forget about having a life. Hope this helps.
