What is the avg. type rating cost?

What is typical salary?

Is the LR60 as great of a jet as some say?

Thinking of leaving airline for corp/135.

Thanks in advance.

My company paid for my type, so I don't know the exact cost, but I think it was in the $25K area. In the Northeast, you could expect at least 65K annually for a PIC. It is a great airplane, but not without a few setbacks: (doesn't handle on the ground like a Lear, not a heck of a lot of baggage space, full fuel means about 2 passengers and a couple small bags).
Seems like it is a real hot type rating to have. FSI, through April, has already put through the same number of certificates as they did all of '04. Seems like people want it.
Hope it helps.

I wouldn't leave a 121 gig to fly a Lear 60, BUT.

Flew it for two years. Awesome climb, and that is about it. Runway landing part 135 you are going to need 5300' or so. Unless the company is approved for the new subpart k 80%.

Baggage is small. It does well up to FL410, then it is like balancing on the tip of a pin.

Ours were around S/N 100 ish, a fair amount of mtc issues. Did not like the ground handling at all.

Great kick in the pants on takeoff, but was not at all impressed with anything else. The brakes are atrocious.

Our negotiated Type rating cost was $17K. And I would also say the salary for PIC is 65-75K

That salary is really low for a Lear 60 PIC.

And, when you say you wouldn't leave a 121 gig for it, do you mean 121 as in ExpressJet, or 121 as in Southwest?

I would not an ExpressJet for a 135 gig. I am an airline guy though, so its just an opinion. I don't think there is a life to be had flying 135. It really is a paycheck, and there is nothing that gets better. The constant on call will ALWAYS be there. Unlike the 121 stuff, where at least you can strive for a better schedule. I know things are stagnant right now, but I always enjoyed knowing where I stood in line.

The pay, I was making low 60's as a PIC. I interviewed for another 60 PIC position, and was given the range of 65-80. The airplane never made it.

I know of a friend who interviewed for a 91 job flying the 60, the salary was $80k. No days off though.

Hope it helps.

No $hit. But English, this looks like it's heading toward the 121 vs 135/corp debacle... lol.

Another dead horse beaten before it's time...
