Does any one know what the going rate for a Lear 35A co-pilot is in the midwest ? My sons friend has an oppertunity for a position. He has his ATP and has approx 2500TT and 350 Multi.

Lr35 FO Pay

Wal-Mart starts 31A and 35 FOs out at $40,000 plus full benefits. A small 135 outfit in ORF starts at $35,000. Hope that helps!

Unfortunatly if its a 135 job the pay MIGHT be considerably lower, considering your friend's low time. I know some crappy operators start there 35 FO's at $22K. Realisticly, he should shoot for about $30K + full benefits, with reasonably good time to upgrade (12-24 months). If its a legitamate corporate job (91) the starting pay might be considerably better (around $55K), but upgrade might be considerably slower.

I just posted this on the Hawker pay threat, it might be relavant here

"There have been a lot of questions about pay in the last few days, one thing to remember in the corporate/charter world there is no union, these numbers are strictly average. What one Hawker crew makes might be completely different than another one. What you make and earn is completely up to you.

For instance, I can guarantee you that I would be able to find a Hawker copilot, who would gladly accept a salary of $15,000, wash the airplane, and get my dry cleaning, wash my car, etc. (not that I would ever consider doing this, its just an example). On the other hand, there are a bunch of us corporate pilots that have to "hide" the salary surveys. Using the Hawker example again, I have a very good friend that flies a 700 he's making $130K, his SIC is making $70,000, and they also do some 135 work."

LR28

I have only heard of them and saw a picture of one once, was it the Lear 35 body with the Lear 25D engines? How was it to fly, just curious?
I will pass along that info.

Thanx

The LR28 is a neat rocket that won't go very far. But I've done Jackson Hole to Chicago in a little over an hour at FL510!

Nope, Lear 31 wing (great climbing wing), mated with the LR25, CJ610 engine (pure jet). Unbelievable climb rate, only 4 or 5 were made, and I think there were only 2 or 3 29's (LR28 with extra fuel) made!

When the LR28 first came out Lear hired Neil Armstrong to fly it for publicity and break a few records. I believe it went from 0 to FL510 in 15 minutes or something insane like that, setting a record that held until recently when the GV broke it.

One problem with the older series Lears is DRVSM, which will be here in 2005! I'm pretty sure there isn't an RVSM mod for the 20 series and it might cost more than an old series Lear is worth (i.e. old, high time Lear 24=$300,000; RVSM mod $200,000).
