This latest group of newhires have quite a few pilots below the minimum requirements of 1000TT/100. One guy had 750TT. Otherwise, they meet the full requirements (flight job, degree, etc).
The few that I know of are not hired per the agreement AE has with ATP flight schools for lesser time upon completing their program, either. I don't get it, why is AE doing this? Interesting....

Why is AE doing this?
I don't know aobut the ATP flight schools thing, but they are probably having a hard time finding people with the advertised mins. They are saying they will hire 350-400 this year, but not one plane is being delivered.
It's for attrtion because so many are bailing. There are now many 8 year FO's and about 500 flowbacks.
They just put out notice to voluntary leaves of absence for Captains, since there are so many. Therefore, I don't expect Captain upgrades or flowback recalls to AA anytime soon.

AE used to take interns that worked for either AE or AA at 500 TT / 100 multi and give them a shot at the interview. Maybe that was the story with a few of the new-hires you saw.

Just for info, my friend on the APA nego. comm says probably no recalls for another year.

Sup. W will expire before recalls start.TC

Rumor is they're trying to get about 30/mo and having roughly a 30% no show rate for classes. Low timers are more likely to show and stick around for a couple of years.

Even being low time, they must be pretty sharp. AE's interviews seem to be the hardest among the regionals.
