The solution to low pilot staffing is quite simple.

Put all first officers through upgrade training. Then let each captain hire a Beginning Aviator with Basic Experience (BABE) to fly right seat with him. Female captains will be allowed to hire a person who has been through a Specialized Training working Under Direction program (STUD).

These will be non-pilot positions. Just teach them how to do flows, checklists, QRH, callouts, talk on radio, etc.

Staffing problem is solved and moral goes through the roof.

Damn, I'm good. I should be running the place.

Could we get rid of the Red Arrow Days (RAD)?

Done. Red arrow days will be replaced with one secret daily double pairing each month. Whoever happens to get this pairing will make double-time for the entire trip.

The solution is to scare the pilots with vague references to mainline partner "attention" and using phrases like "critical mass". Pilots will then fall all over themselves to fly on their off days and even volunteer for reserve. You will then be adequately staffed. Well played SH.

Congratulations, you have described the MPL. The future of regional aviation and eventually all commercial aviation, when pilots dry up.
