Lost Communications once cleared for an Approach...What is your limit?

I answered the MAP,but I was'nt to sure. They did not specify if it was an uncontrolled field or not.

Got asked this question on an interview written exam. thanks.

Predictability is the key

What I have best understood from the regs regarding lost comms is to keep it predictable.

My thought would be, If cleared the app.

squak 7600. Once you do that they know you cannot communicate.

If you Re. but not Tr. then acknowledge with Ident.

If you don't Re, and unsure about Tr. than state your intentions like a CTAF "(address ATC), (ID yourself) transmiting in the blind (Sate intentions)."

Fly the app. and land if able. That would be expcted. When Established inbound change to tower and repeat the above call

If no tower than think before you go driving out of the clouds and to the runway. I might just be hanging out clear the clouds at 500' AGL (got to love class G)

If unable to land go missed and hold until you're ready to head to your alternate.

If you go missed at your alternate you're in trouble. I would just get out that WX report, figure out how much longer I can stay in the air and head where WX might be better. That way when I run out of fuel I'll most likely see the ground before I hit.

I'm sorry...that's incorrect. The right answer should be:

"The Parking Spot.....I always get in"
