Loss of licence insurance

I'm about to leave the military and join the civil aviation ranks. What's the best deal on loss of licence insurance? My future employer does not provide it.

Here's the link to the AOPA legal services plan. You have to be a member to obtain the insurance however. You can also research more info from this link.

I personally purchase "Commercial Ticket" coverage since my job requires a commercial ticket.

You can also purchase ATP insurance if you "fly under an ATP license", or you can purchase "Private Ticket" insurance.

I was under the impression that the insurance only covers you if you are renting an aircraft of instruct in one. Since it's for non-profit they told me that it wouldn't cover me in an accident if I wasn't "renting" the aircraft.

I was looking into additional coverage for ferrying a/c.

Does aopa insurance cover commercial pilots if they are ferrying aircraft around?

I think the original poster was referring to the actual loss of license insurance, not the lawyer fees incured fighting the FAA to get your medical back.

You can get insurance if you lose your medical and can't get it back.

AOPA sent me to an insurance company. They said they are not taking any more business. The Harvey Watt link has rates. It all seems a little pricey (about $100/month to get $2500/month for only a year). I think it would be a better plan to self-insure by keeping some extra chash in the bank.

Yes I did. It WAS a blast, as you said! I remember one slingload going all wrong and then there was beans-and-weenies all over the place! ha Not my chalk though - I must say.

what kind of insurance did you ask about? I swear that I have my "commercial level coverage legal insurance" through them.
