The plane crashed in the yard of Kenneth and Joan Ruotsala, whose property is adjacent to the airport just east of its general aviation hangar. Joan Ruotsala, 58, said she heard a thud when it hit. "We were just worried, 'Oh, what's happened to the people?"' she said. "We didn't think about it until a couple of hours later that we were so lucky and fortunate that the Lord spared our house."
Kangas said the weather was clear at the time of the crash. "The pilot reported an engine problem followed by a landing gear problem, and was circling the airport at the time of the crash," said Ted Lopatkiewicz, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board.

It was good...It's kind of like "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" meets "Jay and Silent Bob" in a zombie movie.

We had to turn on the subtitles to get the most out of the dialouge, but overall it was a pretty good flick. If you get a chance, watch some of the bonus stuff after the movie.

Did 5 people die here ?

Am i missing something or are you guys being a little too giddy for a post reporting 5 deaths . I find it a little distasteful. How about if we focus on a man his wife and 3 children dying ??? Vavso

Ok...we're being a little too giddy. Back to the news...

Pilot disorientation considered in crash
Victims from Marengo, Cardington, Richwood

MOUNT GILEAD -- Investigation continues into an airplane accident that left three people dead Thursday morning at Morrow County Airport.

"We're working with our aviation section in Columbus," said Sgt. Steve Thompson of the Mount Gilead post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Pilot Marilyn Jean Bible, 72, Marengo, and passengers Denise Sanderson, 48, Cardington, and Ashley Brown, 11, Richwood, died in the accident that occurred at 10:09 a.m. Thursday.

The single-engine 1977 Cessna 172 had a normal take-off, but then disappeared into low clouds before Bible turned the plane around and headed back toward the airport, witnesses said. When the plane emerged from the clouds, it was nose-down in a steep bank, said Carl R. "Butch" Fisher, airport manager.

Another pilot who was considering flying out of the airport said the plane "crushed and cartwheeled" upon impact about 75 yards south of the runway in a slushy field. The plane came to rest upside down.

Bible and her passengers were taking a sight-seeing flight to look at the snow, Fisher said. He said a preflight check showed a 2,800-foot cloud ceiling and four miles of visibility.

Brian Fisher, a maintenance employee at the airport, said within a half hour after the crash visibility had deteriorated to a quarter-mile with a 100-foot cloud ceiling.

"They took off, then the weather got bad while they were taking off," Fisher said. "I think they lost reference to the ground."

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the accident.

Sgt. Steve Thompson of the patrol's aviation section said pilot disorientation is "one of the considerations" in the investigation of the fatal crash.

"Usually within about a matter of seconds once you're in clouds if you're not trained for that then you become disoriented," Thompson said. "You can't tell whether you're up, down or what your position is." Bible, who had 24 years of pilot experience, was not rated to fly solely by instruments, Fisher said. The Mount Gilead Fire Department and Morrow County emergency squads responded to the report of the crash, Morrow County Sheriff Steve Brenneman said. The Morrow County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
