I have both apple and windows computers. My main reason for wanting to switch was because I don't want to pay a subscription and the automated calculation of night flying. How well is that working

I calculate my own night flying manually. Many people just wag 10% of total time as night time.

I would consider holding off on buying any new electronic logbook apps until after FAR 117 gets supported by the program you settle on.
