I am currently employed as a CFI. I also earned my COMM/MULTI/INST recently and am trying to build multi time in 400 series Cessnas that are owned by a corporate flight service company. I am brought along ONLY on Part 91 flights and I always fly with an MEI or the company check pilot/chief pilot (who is NOT an MEI). Having under 25 hours Multi anyway, most of these flights are truly "instructional."

Can someone please go through specifics on how much I can legally log as PIC? Can I do log anything more if I earned an MEI? You can see where I'm going with this. I do not want to 'bend' hours that will come up to bite me later in an airline interview, however I would like to be able to log as much as I legally can.

If a regional pilot or anyone has been here before, please pass on your take on logging multi PIC time. Thanks very much in advance!

Get your MEI

Heres the deal if you fly with the MEI then you both can log the PIC time. You just have to log it as PIC dual recieved and he has to log it as dual given. He also has to sign your logbook and all that fun stuff. Also he must have 5hrs of PIC in that type of twin before he can give any dual in it. If you fly with they guy that is not the MEI then you can only log the hours where you are the sole manipulator of the controls. Also go ahead and get your MEI it is a good way to get paid to get multi time.

Do you have at least a private pilot certificate with "airplane multi-engine land" listed in the aircraft "ratings" section? If you do, you are legally allowed to log PIC for all the time you are the only person handling the controls of a multi-engine land airplane (unless it is one that requires a type certificate that you don't have). It doesn't matter who else is in there with you.

If you earn your MEI, you will also be able to log PIC time for the time you instruct in a multi-engine airplane.

You may log all the time you actually manipulate the controls, and if the guy you're flying with has an MEI, and is giving instruction, you may log all the time if he signs it off. The MEI does NOT have to have 5 hours in type unless the instruction is for a certificate or rating.

Ditto the above. As long as you hold a Private or better certificate with an unrestricted multiengine rating, i.e. no VFR-only or centerline thrust restrictions, every moment that your hands are on the controls is legitimate and loggable as PIC time.

Hope that helps some more.
