So, I am laying over in BFE Alabama and figured this would be the perfect time to start putting my logbook in.

Joy.

Any who, I can see my self catching up to current date and look back and wish I had done something different in the data entry.

Any tips from guys who have put all their log book into digital format?

Do you actually put anything in the remark section?

Thanks!

Good luck, I did it when I had 500 hours and I thought that was bad.

Use the auto fill under preferences, to autofill different columns for you.

I.E. for me whenever it sees a 172 its PIC, & Dual given.

Or a bonanza I used to fly was always PIC and XC. That will save you time.

There is not point in logging tail wheel, turbine, high pref etc b/c anytime you enter a new type of a/c logbook pro asks what its characteristics are.

I don't use the remarks but I have no intent to print it off and take it to an interview, I'm going to stick to my paper copy for that.

Just hollar if you have any questions. I'm still a CFI so maybe some real pilots will have some more usefull advice.

Thanks man ....

Wow, that Autofill is great...so when I was bumming around in the Tomahawk for private that would just be sel/dual received. But when I started instructing in it I can change autofill to add pic/dual given. Thanks!

Dude, you are the realist pilot I know .... CFIs bust major hump!

Ok, how do I make this happen.

How come it won't autofill the N numbers? I already had used the numbers...but it makes me type them out each time.

I am using a laptop with a baby usb number pad...gotta take it off numlock each time to type some letters.

Any ideas?

Yea you can reset the autofill (99% sure), and it won't affect previous entries.

Mine auto fills the tails based on type. If you have more than one tail per type of a/c then it just uses whatever the last tail you flew. Is that what is happening to you also?

If you're flopping around N-numbers, I think you just have to manually input the new one if its different from your last flown.

I find that using the "Windows" entry instead of the "Spreadsheet" is a lot more user-friendly. Also, normally I just put the flight number in the remarks section, unless there's something that I for some reason decide also needs to be included.

The one problem I have with mine is that I can't get rid of the airship, balloon, seaplane, etc. stuff in the analyzer. They come up every time I open it even though I've gone through and deselected them each time and set it to save.

I had started typing everything I did with students in the remarks section...but that got old.

Now I just put their name in.

If it's a cross country, I may put in who I flew with.........das about it.

I want the PDA add-on so bad...because even with LBP I haven't updated my logbook in ........ *looking at stack of scrap paper that I write my times on sitting next to laptop* ....... a while

Anyone that has the PDA thing if you could let us know here or drop me a PM how it works...that would be fantastic!

I created an Access database, once you figure out the queries it makes it very easy to call up your numbers for the insurance forms and such. The forms option is nice also so you can make new data entry easy. Sure saves a lot of time after it's set up.

I looked at the PDA companion, and for airline stuff it wasn't worth much. Might work OK for instructing though. The ASDL or whatever it's called does work very well for airline flytng though. Import your schedule, and then just input out and in times, tail #, and crew, and you're done. Very nice program.

what about the remarks from when you were a student? did you list all the stuff, plus the CFI number, etc? i just started on mine, planning on using it for interviews.

Log Book pro is a good program no doubt, but over the years I've been through a LOT of computers and it doesn't like to deal with changing computers.

My solution was http://www.logshare.com/ free, online, and almost as comprehensive (I didn't make the site, just found it and liked it)

I didn't put the CFI cert number or name, just what we covered.

For endorsements (written, practical, high perf, cx, altitude, etc.) I just scanned them, have them here, on a CD, e-mailed to myself, etc. for backup and I can just print 'em out, put 'em in the back of my printed out "logbook" and take 'em with me to interviews.

Just remember to sign your pages if you print LBP for interview purposes.

Um, Logbook Pro is basically a pile of crappy bloatware, however it is no more difficult to move from one computer to another then a word document. Install Logbook Pro on the new computer and use the file menu to open you old logs.

Expand on that?

I have entered 278 flights and about 278 hours...why are my hands numb:(

You have 2700 hours man! I couldnt imagine entering so many flights into LBP! You might have to make a couple weeks out of it, ya know, like when you get some free time.

I have only 300 hours or so and it hurt when I bought LBP.

Free. Took me 40 hours to input my log, but it has a 'print summary'
function. use it whenever I'm applying to a company.
It usually saves me an hour each time.

Also, time flown (and type) Last 365, 180, 90, 60, 30, 7 days.

Ok, that is good to hear the electronic way will save you time:)

Ok, I have already mentioned this to the logbook pro folks...its in the next update...which involves a complete rewrite...so it is not happening tomorrow :(

I WISH Logbookpro had Auto Complete. There is a big difference between Autofill and complete.

Like I have to type the n number EACH time it is different from the last entry. I can't type just the first couple numbers/letters of it and it anticipates.

Rather annoying....but not much can be done about it. Would not call it a deal breaker.

Well 519 flights entered and 491 hours...I am going to bed:(

Ok, I was having this problem with my USB 10 number keypad. Every time I turned the numlock on the USB keypad it would turn the numlock on my laptop on also.

Rather annoying because with my laptop's numlock on the K is 2 , the M is 0 and so on. I found this program that lets the numlock on the usb 10 key act independantly of the laptop's numlock.
