Well this is another one of those logbook pro posts.

Since things keep on changing, I want to get a Treo and just wondering which one and which operating system to go with. From you guys with experience I sure hope you can help out.

650, 700, palm, windows etc...???

I've got a 700wx with Windows on it. The phone features blow. Leave it to Microsoft to integrate simple phone stuff and you end up with the 700wx...lame. Example, can't add a contact from a number that calls you. You have to add the name first and then remember the number and copy it over. So, aside from stupid phone tricks that any $10 verizon phone can do, the system side and APDL work fine. I've played with the Palm version, it runs a little faster (system that is) than the Windows but I wanted IE and Outlook support so I went that route.

Knowing a little bit about database development etc, Logbook Pro pisses me off. The autofill feature only works when you're importing data, so anything after the fact you're left with exporting, fixing in Excel or Access and then re-importing. The decimal conversion is a joke for something that tracks your flight time to the minute and the whole crappy package is so riddled with bugs that even on a brand new Windows XP installation, it still manages to crash 50% of the time, and I'm not exagerrating. Backup often.

Hope it helps.

I second that the Treo sucks! I used one for 6 months, and sold it. I still use the little black book, and import my times directly from the company. Then I go back and fill in my landings, night time, and anything else I want to. Logbook Pro has always worked well for me though. It has never crashed in three years of use.

I have a Treo 700p. When I first bought it, the entire os would reboot frequently. Most of the time while I was on a phone call. I upgraded from the 600(p). And was told that some of my old programs were incompatible.

Once I deleted some of my old programs the resets went away. Now its just as stable as the 600 was. I have been using APDL and LogBookPro for 4 years now and I have not had any stability problems with either program. The only change I don't like is the new sync operation only grabs the first tail # when you are syncing one line per day to the master log. The old version would create a new line for each new tail # when swapping aircraft during the day.

I just haven't yet taken the time to inquire about that one. Otherwise I can't complain, my master log is kept up to date without any input or modifications on my part.

I am hoping that they come up with a mac version of APDL so I can get an Iphone when my treo contract is up in a year and a half.

Smacktard, all you have to do is after the phone call go to the CALL LOG and it will show UNKNOWN CALLER xxx-xxx-xxxx simply click on that and then click on ADD TO CONTACTS and then you can fill in the name and any other fields you want.

I have a Treo 700wx running APDL, I think it is nice, I update my times sitting in the airplane and then when I sync back home it puts the times into logbook pro. Presto my logbook is done.

I'm a SPRINT customer and I'm looking at the MOGUL phone that is a Windows Mobile 6 phone. My only complaint on my TREO is the 240x240 screen size. APDL has a little trouble with this but once you figure out the little UP/DOWN triangles on the bottom right hand of the screen, it works fine, just don't use the VERTICAL scroll on the screen.

It still offers this feature. All you have to do is check the box on the sync window that asks if you want all the flights on a single logbook entry, or each flight on individual lines.

Or did you mean that there used to be a feature that would put everything into one line untill there was a new tail #?

Unless the 700wx has that feature specifically removed (no idea why it would do that), windows mobile can definitely add easier than that. You type in the name first, then you navigate down to the phone number entry (home, mobile, or work- whichever you need) and just hit insert... it should copy the number in.

If I may, I am going to piggyback off this thread to post another logbook pro question.

I’ve looked at the evaluation version and considering buying the “pro edition” to install on two computers but a couple quick questions before I purchase.

1.) What if I get a new computer, or worse, the old one crashes. I hope I would have backed up the info on the other computer or a thumb drive (can back up on a thumb drive?). However, is reinstalling the software and transferring the data back in an easy fix? I looked all over their website and searched the forum on here and it looks like it could potentially be a royal pain especially since they have no phone to call them, but please add your own comments.

2.) Is transferring the logbook data between your two computers fairly easy to do? I’m sure it is but I would like the customers opinion, not the sellers.

Thanks
