Another airline analyst comment related to United and the loan guarantee (from Denver Post):
An influential airline analyst said Thursday that he considers it "far less likely" that the government will approve United Airlines' application for a $1.6 billion loan guarantee. But Sam Buttrick of UBS Securities in New York said liquidation is an unlikely outcome for United should its application be denied. In a note to investors on Thursday, Buttrick said the passage of time since Sept. 11, 2001, which prompted the government to set up the loan-guarantee program, has made United's problems appear less a result of the terrorist attacks.
