Does anybody know where I can find a list of abbreviations from NOTAMS? I have the current AIM and the FAA site doesn't list these two.

Specifically this is the one I am having difficulty with, BOW and MU. I have also seen LLZ, which I eventually figured out is the localizer but I can't find any reference to that. I guess I could call FSS but that defeats the purpose of online info.

If you have a DUATS account, you can go on there and use the "decode" function. They have it for FAA and NWS abbreviations.

MU (like the greek letter) is the Runway Friction Coefficient. It's the new braking action report. A detailed explanation is in the AIM.

LLZ is Localizer

BOW is ??? New to me, and the duats doesn't know, either. Thinks it's Bartow, FL.
 
Mu is a Greek letter that resembles an m. It is used to report friction readings on snow covered or icy runways for braking action reports. The number is a decimal. In your example 37/35/36 are .37/.35/.36. Higher numbers are better braking.

I'm stuck on BOW as well. It may refer to the equipment used to do the braking test.

It's not Bartow, FL because the report is from Manassas, VA and it gives the braking on 16L

I remember using that in physics to find the deceleration of objects and the force required to get them moving. The force of kinetic friction is meu times the normal force, in most cases the mass times gravity. Is this the same thing?
 
MU as has already been described, is the braking effectiveness reading.

In physics and engineering the coefficient of friction is usually symbolized by the greek letter mu. Normally the lowercase mu is used, which looks more like a cursive lowercase "u"

BOW means that the braking friction was measured usining a Bowmonk Deccelerometer. Most of the airports I fly into use a Taply Deccelerometer and are abbreviated TAP
