I have begun trying to use my Lightspeed 20XL on the ERJ and I keep getting a high pitched squeal. The only way to get rid of it is by turning the intercom mic switch off which makes it kinda pointless when I can't talk to the captain. Turning off the ANR feature makes no difference. Has anyone else had this problem? I called Lightspeed about it today and they were totally clueless and gave me no resolution to the problem. A pair of company-supplied David Clarks plugged into the same jacks gave no problem.

I have a pair of 25XLs that I use on a Saab, and once in a while I have the same situation happen. I believe it has to do with the type of Mic that lightspeed uses. It seems to pickup quite a bit of interference with the cockpit eletronics. I have noticed it would get worse with backlighting on high and of course with window heat on, but it varies from plane to plane. Lightspeed has no answers. Other that that I love 'em.

Cheers

You are not alone....

I've had the same problem too. The problem is feedback and RF interference from the ANR amplifier and the aircraft electrical systems, especially from the Windshield Heaters. The only way to not have this problem reoccur is to not turn the ANR until you put the headset on and turn it off before you remove the headset. The 20XL is a great headset and Lightspeed has great Customer Service. There really isn't anything they can do to fix it. It's a plane thing. Happens to me all the time to me on the Saab but I love the Lightspeeds.

Call up L/S and see if they still have the deal where you can trade in your 20 for a newer 25 series. I think they stopped it.

Hope this helps out.

I think they are still doing to trade in on the 30-3g. I traded in my 25xl for it. (cost $150) good headset, but I don't think it is tso'd for 121 flying.
