Hey folks -
I was wondering how often lightbulbs go out on some of the equipment you fly? I am mostly interested in warning lights and general cockpit lights. I've had several go out on me recently and was just curious as to how often it happens and if it caused any issues. (one bulb that went out was the front gear bulb).

Spares are required

In transport catagory aircraft an assortment of spare bulbs is required onboard equipment. Further, many of the switches have more than one bulb, it is unlikely that both will burn out at the same time and you can tell one is out because you can still see the on/off (or what ever the annunciation is) but it is dimmer. Same goes for nav lights - two at each position.

think its about time to switch to LED's in the cockpit or is that too edgy for the FAA to certify? ;)

My point exactly, was thinking of starting up a side project to do just that. Is it worth pursuing?

Hey Swass, just checking to see if you know what 'swass' is?

For those who don't, it is the sweat that is between your ass and your balls. For the ladies, it's on the taint.:D

The bright ones at the FAA

I heard somewhere that the FAA is the largest consumer of vacuum tubes in the world.

Do you think they can even spell LED?

How about FAA?

And before you start accusing the pot of calling the kettle black I'll be happy to let you know our DC6s all have solid-state electronics. Thank you very much.

Hey Ace -
Swass is the baddest @ss rap term ever invented. It was invented back when rap was old school. H ell, I don't even like rap. But....

"Don't you wish your boyfriend was Swass like me?"

I don't get it.

"Don't you wish your boyfriend was grundle sweat like me?"

Do you remember Mix-A-Lot? Listen to some of his older stuff, some of the funniest $hit ever. You'll know where Swass comes from then.

Hey, there's advantages to vacumn tubes. If they replaced that rack of vacuum tube fuel gauge amplifiers with a handful of transistors on a circuit board the size of a matchbox, where would you put your gloves to dry?

Your gloves get wet?

Dude. Why do you have wet gloves?

Do like I do, go inside and have some coffee...er, I mean, prepare some paperwork.

There's always *some* paperwork to do.
