Thinking about applying for a fractional job. Thing is, I have a little bit of tendinitis in one of my knees. Its by no means debilitating but it gets uncomfortable sometimes. How many and how often do you guys hump bags in a 7 day schedule. I mean, is it a constant affair or would you say its sporadic light duty. I know most of you guys like to work as a team and that helps out but I'm just trying to find out of this is repetitive duty with heavy bags, etc. Thanks ahead of time. ;)

From what I understand, you can tip the linemen to handle the bags when there are linemen available. You don't have to do it every time. If there are no linemen to help, bring some extra Advil... At Netjets I believe you get reimbursed by the company for any tips you give. Fractionals, unlike the airlines, are very service-oriented operations.

I really thing people make waaaaay too much out of this issue. I have bursitis (along with the associated arthritis and tendonitis) in my right shoulder; its not bad but some days it bothers me more than others, sitting in the plane all day actually makes it feel worse than loading bags. Bring some mortin.

I think the Ultra may be one of the worse airplanes to load, but it is really not that difficult. You can have the line guys load for you, but I rarely do since I want to make sure stuff is secure. I still tip the guys a few bucks for helping out, and yes tips are reimbursable. The worst loads are six ladies on a shop X, six quail hunters, or 4 golfers. Sometimes its like a puzzle to get everything in but most times its very easy.

If you do a search, you'll find there is no typical day. Most days it seems like half the flights are repos (no pax), some days there are pax on ever leg. Most loads w/ pax are 2-3 pax w/ 1 suitcase to load per pax.

Put your app in and best of luck.

I am hoping for NJA soon. I am so surprised how many people think it is such a big deal to load some bags. I used to work on the ramp for a couple major airlines so no big deal to load a few bags. It's not like you are going to be hand stacking fish boxes to the ceiling if 757. To me loading a couple bags would be a nice way to strech and get out of the airplane.

But hey to each there own

It is not that bad as some days there are few bags and others there are alot but over all I think you could manage. The worse is when you are out in the weather trying to load/unload the bags while the line guys are hiding inside only so show up as you finish. Then after you brave the elements to load/unload the line guys get tipped by the owner for doing nothing. Ugh!

Why do so many pilots complain about this issue? I'll lift the bags to get the operation moving. If I don't want to lift the bags I just tip. The line guys want to put that crap up there because they want a tip. They're sitting right there with the bag cart waiting for me to unlock it when I pull in.

If you dont want to lift a bag you'll hardly ever have to.
