Well...today I picked my job in the ANG....Life Support. I dont know that much about it just the basics. I was curious if anybody in here has or had that job, and how they like it. Also how long is the tech school? I was informed that it is part of base ops, and quite honestly I do not know what that means if anything at all. Any input is greatly appreciated

Thanks :)

Life Support

I know a little about it. Mainly, you will be responsible for the inspection and repair of the equipment that air crew members use such as helmets, oxygen mask, and some emergency flotation equipment like life vest and such. I believe the tech school is only about six weeks long but I believe that you are also required to attend basic water survival school as well (about a week I think). Base ops just means that you will see alot of pilots wonder the hallways looking for something to do on drill weekends!!:)

good luck,

johnny

What happened to the Loadmaster slot?

Johnny T is right, you will work with aircrew quite a bit. You will also do some instructing when annual training comes around. Our LS folks rock and do some great work. There are also other training opportunities such as cold weather survival, jump school (I think they still can attend)...

Let me know when you get in so I can bum some flight gloves from you. :) I don't want to pay $35 at a surplus store...heh.

haha I take it that you are in the 182nd? if you are, whats your job if you dont mind me asking..

JungleJett,

I called my recruiter yesterday and he's said before that there are spots available but then when I talked to him, he said no can do. But whenever I was at the medical, there was another guy (prior service) that was going in doing loadmaster and then my boyfriend is going in doing loadmaster, so I think what the recruiter is doing is holding that job for other people. But I am happy with my decision none the less. I think that it will be good for me, and I can always cross train. After my 4 years I'd like to be a flight enginere if I cant get a UPT slot. But anyhow, thanks everyone for the comments.

Babydoll,

There is no bad job in the military. You will be serving your country and that is the best job in the world and the most satisfying you will find.

If you really want to be a Loadmaster, you need to talk directly to the Loadmaster Supervisor. I only dealt with the recruiter when it came time for the paperwork.

Again, this is only if you really want to be aircrew. You are right by choosing a job in operations.

Good luck and thanks for answering the call to duty. You will not be disappointed.
