I haven't been to LGA in quite some time...pre 9/11. Any tips and tricks to getting in and out of there? I understand that you must make a slot time, and that there are no hangar facilities at Signature. But they do have de-ice cap. As I recall, taxing around there is a nightmare.

Just thought I'd ask around and see if anyone has any recent experience and might want to share.

Thanks,
yoloed.

We usually just get the ARO before going in IFR and its been going pretty smooth. The fees at signature are a little hefty, but not too bad.

The van ride from and to the ramp is a lot of fun; taxiing's not bad if 4 or 13 is active.

Do yourself and your pax a favor and bypass LGA. It's still a stinking hole, and the "friendly" folks at the PANY&NJ make it ever more difficult operating there.

Try TEB or HPN if you're looking for service and someone who actually welcomes you. Lots of terrific FBO's available at both, and your ride to midtown can be minimized by not operating during rush hour or have your pax chopper into one of the 3 heliports downtown.

Glad to pass on additinal pertinent info if requested.

Thanks for all the info guys. I agree that it's a hassle for the pax compared to some of the other options. We probably won't be going there again for a long since no time was saved by the pax.

The only thing I found interesting in any way about LGA is the historical signifigance of the GA terminal. The water nearby is where flying boats used to pull up for passengers, and the architecture is vintage art deco.

Otherwise it IS a pit. The FBO people have all the charm of municipal employees of a large city. We routinely parked inconveniently near a fenced-in spot on the ramp where antennas and lights are located, and waited for vans to come out and carry in the pax, then return for us.

On the positive side, the van driver can take you to a diner about seven minutes away.

As mentioned, you are much better off at TEB or HPN.

watch out for the potholes i swear its the only airport that i have been too that has pot holes on the runway ....must be a ny thing
