If you are asked to write a LOR for someone, what sort of stuff do you put in it ? Never had to do this. I suppose it varies whether the LOR is personal or professional, but assume it's professional.

I would guess you would need to have flown with the person ? How about going through the sim ? How close does the professional association have to be to make your comments worthwhile.

Does it end up being a bunch of platitudes or should it include specifics after establishing your connection to the person in question ?

Bafanguy,

I would have thought with 23,000 hours you must have written a few hundred letters of rec. Anyway, the ones I have done were for guys I really liked and actually flew with. If it was just the sim, then so be it, but you will have to add a lot of filler I guess. Bottom line, if all you did was fly once or twice with someone, or less yet, simply simmed with them, I hope you are not the top dog getting them the job with your letter. But, the fact that you have so darn much flight time can work to your advantage by making that known when you speak highly of this individual you are recommending. I make my letters tailored to the individual and company, and hopefully not too boring.

Good luck, and good typing.

you can follow the generic stuff, but throw in your personal experiences with the person.

I would think they also want someone who has FLOWN with the person...but ya never know - cant hurt.
