There is a question that reads "Have you ever received a letter from the FAA regarding your certificate or any other action". Would a failed instrument checkride oral fall into this. When I was 20 yrs old, BEFORE my Embry-Riddle days and BEFORE going military, I failed the oral on an instrument checkride for some wx questions. I got handed a "pink slip" on the spot. Just can't remember if I got a "letter from the FAA". Any thoughts?

They are not looking to see if you failed a checkrideas the pink slip is not a letter from the FAA. Letters from the FAA concern potential violations of the FAA Regs.

Not A Letter from the FAA

Your pink slips do not qualify as a letter from the FAA. Only violations and accidents would be catergorized by a letter. Come on now how many of us pilots have not had a pink slip in one form or another. Failed check-rides are discussed in the interview process. Just be honest and you should do just fine.
