Hello all,

I read the "renew CFI" post before but want to ask some advice for a pal of mine. He is at UPT (that's Air Force undergraduate pilot training for the non types) and stationed at Columbus AFB in Mississippi. His CFI expires the last day of the month, I know don't say it..... Anyway He has been so swamped with pilot training that he is up against the deadline. If anyone knows any good DE's in that area who have good short notice availability please share any info you might have. Or if you have any other ideas for a fast renewal please chime in.

If your friend wants to take a checkride, fine, but (not sure how you managed to not pick this up when you read the thread) here are the quick alternatives:

if your friend was "swamped" with flight training, he should be able to take advantage of 61.97(a)(2)(i)

==============================
(2) Presenting to an authorized FAA Flight Standards Inspector -
(i) A record of training students showing that, during the preceding 24 calendar months, the flight instructor has endorsed at least five students for a practical test for a certificate or rating and at least 80 percent of those students passed that test on the first attempt;
==============================

If not, he can take advantage of 61.197(a)(2)(iii)
==============================
(2) Presenting to an authorized FAA Flight Standards Inspector -
(iii) A graduation certificate showing that, within the preceding 3 calendar months, the person has successfully completed an approved flight instructor refresher course consisting of ground training or flight training, or a combination of both.
==============================

He can complete one of the online courses in his spare time.

Well I did "pick it up" in the thread but was not sure if all options were listed. We don't keep copies of the FARS here because they are of no use. Yes I know it can be looked up online but I have found the board to have faster reference, besides our computers here are slow as dirt when pulling .up certain sites, the FAA being one of them. And if you notice the second part of my question, it asks about designated examiners in the Mississippi area, so you see not everything is addressed in the CFI renewal thread below. Thank you for the FAR reference

Complete a online course at his "spare time" ..... ha ha, spare time at UPT, thats a good one. :)

Well I pulled up the slooooow regulation page and I'm fairly sure you meant 61.197 for instructors, not 61.97 that's for student pilots!
