Well, spoke to Dr. Steve Slade out of Houston (supposedly THE doctor of LASIK doctors) and I was quoted $6000 for both eyes.

Should I shop around or what? I guess you get what you pay for.

Any LASIK horror stories? Tips? My eyes are very quick to tear, a little eyelash or dirt and I am crying like a baby. I don't really know if a laser beam going into my eyeball is something I want to do.

I would also like to have the procedure done, but there are way too many poor outcomes for me to risk it. I read somewhere about an airline pilot who got metal shavings in his eye during the incision and another who had the wrong flap thickness cut because that doc forgot to check the blade settings.

There are lots of websites such as http://www.lasikdisaster.com/ that have similar stories.

I's sure that many, if not most, have had great results, but I'll stick with contacts until it's 100% effective.

BTW...Love the Avatar, Satpak.

WOW, glad I just now learned about that website...6 months after my procedure! Had it done in December, had zero complications and none of the side effects...my night vision is great!

Both eyes cost me about $4000, but I planned ahead and had my company sponsored Flex Spending Account cover the cost...so after taxes that really only cost me about $3000! It equates to $187 pre-tax dollars out of each paycheck, so I barely even notice it.

The AME i had been going to for years told me "no flying for 90 days after the procedure" so I found a new AME that said just to go with what my eye doctor said...so 7 days later I was back up flying with no problems.

Very similar here....

I had custom lasik done just over 3 months ago. I paid 4K for both eyes and have had no problems at all.

I had pretty bad astigmatisms in both eyes and my pre procedure vision was 20/500 left eye and 20/300 right eye. I'm not 20/15 right and 20/20 left and read 20/15 with both eyes.

Make sure you check out your doc for complaints and don't use a lasik factory. The new(er) custom and intra lase (laser cuts the flap), complications are not nearly as common.

Good luck!

No matter how much the success rate improves, it will never be 100% effective. A 100% effective medical procedure doesn't exist.

I had it done a year ago here in Fayetteville, NC without complications. Went from bad eye sight to 20/15, so I was a lucky one. There are always risks - so always consider that when considering any kind of surgery.

Correct, it's surgery, just recently met a girl that had to go back three times to fix problems and it still wasn't right. My question is if they screwed it up the first time, why would you go back to the same place? Do yourself a favor and find the right facility, I did the procedure and it's better than I could have imagined.
