How would one determine if a particular airport had LAHSO lights installed on LAHSO runways? I know the AIM (2-1-5 d) says that some airports have them, but it fails to say how one would find out if a particular airport has them. I checked the AFD, both under the airport I am looking for (KGFK, Grand Forks, ND), and under the LAHSO section. Thanks!

The lights you are talking about are in pavement pulsating white lights. They will probably MAYBE only found at an airport with inpavement lighting, such as centerline taxi lights ect. And they would only be switched on when LAHSO is in use. At the end of the day, I can only think of 1 airline that allows their pilots to use LAHSO. I doubt the only way to find out if they are installed would be to call the airport manager. I have personally never seen them in any AF/D or at any airport. I am sure they exist somewhere, someplace, but I really doubt grand forks ND. Now snow is a different story.

Ok, I figured as much, but Im just hunting around, because there is a way to tell, or else this question wouldn't be on my study sheet. I am studying for a stage check. The reason its Grand Forks ND is UND is up here- 2100 flight students, so it is a pretty bustling airport.

Here's my take on LAHSO. 98% of the airlines will not allow their crews to participate in the LAHSO program and for good cause. Things happen to large aircraft, brakes fail, thrust reversers crap out, and I've even had a turboprop when going into reverse go full FWD instead! Any of these things will cause an aircraft to stop long and potentially over the line. If I was in a 172 and the brakes failed using lahso, it would be time to get really creative to get the airplane stopped. I see lahso as a way to help out atc and that's fine, but never at my expense when my butt is on the line.;) I seldom accept lahso and NEVER when weather is present. Let us know if you find anything published pertaining to a specific airport regarding lahso.

FWIW, Runway 30L at MSP has LAHSO lights...start looking in references for that airport.

Not near anything now, or I'd look myself...well, maybe I'd just wait for you to find it and tell me. I'm lazy by nature, not by choice ;)

Fly safe!

I looked on the Airport Diagram for KGFK Grand Forks, ND, and sure enough we have LAHSO lights on two of our runways! That is, of course, assuming thats what that means, and isn't simply indicating the place one would stop when performing the LAHSO.

I don't get it, why are the lights so far down, past the intersection of runway 22?

Either they are actually for 12R (you could land a GA plane on that 2000'+ section) or they want you to LAHSO those crossing taxiways at the end of 30L.

I agree. It appears that the only logical purpose of the LAHSO lights would be to get you stopped on 30L before the W8/A8 taxiway intersection. No way you are stopping before those lights landing the other direction.
