Got to take the boss to New Orleans this week, and hew is leaving the airport choice up to us. Which airport has the beat facilities to hang out for the day?

Thanks

You will want to go to MSY. Last I heard NEW wasn't even out of their trailer yet and all you had was cell service...no hard line phones. If you go to msy go into Atlantic I think. It is on the North side of the field and there will be a nice looking girl to meet you at your plane!

If you want to help out an airport that is desperately in need of aircraft movements so that they can get the Control Tower back in operation, and an FBO that needs fuel sales go to Lakefront.

Million Air at Lakefront is located in a trailer, however it's a heck of a lot nicer than most of the crappy FBO's across the country. They have everything you need in an FBO including WSI weather, Jaguar crew cars, big screen TV, and about 25 brand new leather sofas.

Lakefront is also much closer to downtown than MSY if that is where your pax are going. You are talking 5 miles with little to no traffic, compared to 12 miles with a good chance of heavy traffic on the interstate.

I have been to both since Katrina. I prefer Lakefront Airport. Even though they are operating out of a trailer/portable, it is a nice, big area. Comfy chairs, and a big screen TV. And take a crew car for a drive around the "hood", for a look at reality. No traffic. Not even traffic lights. They must be doing something right, as they do get lots of airplane traffic.

NEW and spend the day at Visions are down the street on Dowman Rd. Great lunch specials and good scenery. Beats anything you'll see at MSY plus you be helping lakefront come back.

i will say it is nice to help out the Lakefront if it is as nice as these guys say. I haven't been there to see for myself but I am sure they will treat you better than the intern. airport!

Go to Lakefront---Million Air is up running and nice place to sit--Big screen TV---wireless internet and the same great service. Rumor has it that hope the tower will be back in operation soon.

We were just there Friday---and we are Louisiana based

I believe NEW is still DAY VFR only. I may be mistaken. I go to both airports probably 3 times a month. I can vouch the trailer is nice...

As of March, the airport got the lights up and running, and as of August, I believe, the ASOS was put in service, which made it legal for any of the published approaches into NEW. The ILS on the other hand has not been put back into service yet. You still have 2 VOR & 2 GPS approaches.

Correct.. the airport is up and running sans tower. Lights, ASOS, approaches (no ILS) are all working. The RCO is still out making communications with MSY tracon on the ground difficult but that should be recitfied soon. If you need the tracon's phone number PM and I'll give it to you.

BTW.. for some great local chow go to Mother's on Poydras two blocks east of the Superdome and have the "debris roast beef po-boy" followed by the world famous bread-pudding... and don't drink the Dixie. It still sucks.

Cute chicks ar Millionaire Lakefront...Nice trailer thingy there too...
