How do most of you keep track of who/when you sent out resumes and applications to companies and airlines? I'm afraid to send another application out to some companies, for fear on if I already sent one in the last year or not...

I use Microsft Outlook

My mail program, works great for tracking messages and emails...

set up a folder for each company you write too.

Move each email to that folder, it will have the dates you sent stuff and you can set up reminders as well.

I'm sure there are other ways to do this, but this program is on just abour everyones puters...I'm sure Resume writer has a suggestion or 2 on this, it is important to do something along these lines...

One word of warning, make sure you have a way to back up your software incase you loose the hard drive....like a zip drive or stick...this has happened to me, it sucks to loose all your contacts and communications with them.....

good luck

I used a database program (MS Access or similair). I put all the company info in there (contact, address, phone, etc.). Created a Form Letter, inserted all the addresses automatically, printed address labels, and checked off the ones I sent, got replies from, added comments, etc.

Its great because you can print reports on who you haven't heard from and its easily searchable.

I use Outlook's Notes feature to keep track of my job search. Works well and is simple. You can set up codes to remind your self if you have sent them a resume, interviewed, rejected....etc.

Care to explain how you set up these codes?
I do use Outlook

As far as access, care to send me the file so I can see how you set it up?
Thanks

i opened up my Word program.

and kept a list there.
no funky spreadsheets or anything.
i just looked up what i sent to who and then i knew if i did it already or how long ago it was.

dont forget to keep track wich VERSION of the resume you sent out as theres always going to be revisions of the cover letter or format of the actual resume itself. so when you go thorugh a change of that then you can either re-mail the new one or at least youll know who you sent the old one to and know why you didnt get a call back.

BoDean;

Just a simple code you can make up on your own... Eg; RS=Resume Sent, I=Interviewed, etc. Very simply use use what you like. I hope this helps?
