Is it me or are KCM Randoms going through the roof lately.

Now retired, and that's one of the reasons I'm happy to be so.

Exactly. I began my airline career before there was anything resembling "airport security". So I've watched it go from that to full-on Gestapo/KGB especially where flight crews are concerned.

At some point, it's hard to not resent being treated like a criminal rather than a crew member.

I now loathe/despise/detest the airport. Can't remember the last time I set foot in one. But at my age and that of my many friends, something is bound to happen requiring me to set aside my petty bias and fly somewhere for events more important than I.

But for now, I'll drive 12 hours to avoid flying one hour.

I hear ya. Pretty much anything under a 6 hours drive is about the same amount of over all time if you were to fly. After factoring in all the time to park, go through TSA games, get the the gate and board.

A couple of my biggest pet peeves is TSA lack of transparency and accountability. Too many don't know their job and are drunk on unchecked "authority."
