At recurrent ground school this month, the D.O. and Chief pilot confirmed that Kalitta Air has bought a B747-200 sim from Europe. Right now, the sim is sitting in YIP in boxes while they wait for the ground to thaw(which being Michigan, should be around July! ;-). They are waiting so they can start construction on the sim building which will be at YIP.

Apparently, the sim already has the CMA-900 EADI and EHSI plus FMS we have installed in our planes, so that will make training more accurate.

Anyway - the power to be say they hope to have it running by the end of the year. Of course, sim certification always take a long time, so it will probably be later than they say.

Do all of the planes have the EADI and EHSI? I was under the impression that some planes had it and some were still the old steam gauges. Just curious. Glad to see things are growing over there.

There was definately a mix of old and new - however... as of March 29th, 2005 (tomorrow) many airplanes (Kalitta's B747s included) are required to have a TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System). Kalitta is choosing to install this EADI, EHSI & FMS system to meet that requirement, as well as future European requirements.

So, as I understand it, our last airplane went to the mx hanger to get the system installed this week. Last time out, out of 10 or so legs, only one plane didn't have the new system.

The BIG thing now is, How many engines will this SIM have ? We normally fly on Three so will the sim reflect this? At least Connie will be happy that he can Play with the sim after we get shut down because of so many engine failures and MX related problems. Only what... 5 engine's this year so far. Maybe we can beat last years record of 27 and really impress the FED's

Off the current subject, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on life at Kalitta. How are the trips, pay, etc? Where are the bases? I am trying to figure out as much information before I decide on some stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Run a search for Kalitta and you'll find tons of info. There's been quite a few threads over the last several months.
