Anyone has or interested in form a crashpad for Kalitta 07/11 clas to save some money as the Hotel will take at least 3k and if I spend this money my family will not eat.
See you guys there.

You've been talking to the wrong hotels. A hotel will not take at least 3K. The Red Roof in in Belleville has a special rate for Kalitta folks, 29.99 a night (You have to ask for it when you make your reservation). You can also sign up for their rewards program and you'll earn a couple of free nights--good for later, like when you have to go back for recurrent.

The Red Roof is also a T-Mobile Hot Spot. Unlimited wireless internet for $40/month.

The only downside is transportation. They don't have a shuttle, so if you don't have a car or know someone who does, it's not a good choice.

Good luck however it works out...

How's the Red Roof...nice? Hopefully not a shady place. I have class starting on the 11th of July, so I'll be looking for a place as well.

Thanks

It's nice enough. Clean and not run down yet. The rooms are a little on the small side, but not too bad. Small refrigerators in the rooms. Not in a bad area either. Right across the street is a good-sized strip mall with a grocery store, Chinese place, Blockbuster, Taco Bell, McD's, Arby's Quizno's, and more. Walking distance to Applebee's and Wal-Mart. More restaurants and a laundry place are a short drive away. 10 minutes from the hangar. Overall I had no complaints--except for the snow, but I'm pretty sure that won't be a factor for your class.

consider the bellridge apartments,manager theresa pitock.nice place.was $40per night-for a 2 bedrm apartment w cable,kitchen,wash/dry,etc.thats 20 each for 2 or 600 per month.worked great for me.they need 1200 security deposit,and theresa understands the kalitta situation.really need a car-its about 2.5 miles approx from KA,and bout 1.5 to the stores etc.ph is 734-697-4343.good luck

Another option!

Another option to look into is Extended Stay in Romulus (across the hwy from DTW). A bunch of my classmates are here. There should have been a brochure in your package. The flyer says $37.99, but when you make the rsv, if you tell them you are coming in for Kalitta, they will drop the price to $29.99 a night (if you have any problems, just ask for the mngr; she's real nice). If you don't go for the crashpad, I think this works great. Your own room with a kitchenette (fridge, elec. stovetop, microwave, toaster, coffemaker, dishes, pots, pans, etc.). The hotel is clean, front desk staff very accomodating and friendly. However, you either need a car or carpool with someone who stays there as well. They say that the shuttle will bring you over to the hanger and back, but I wouldn't depend on that. It's about 7 miles to the hanger - 15 min commute, all hwy. If you have a wireless modem, for $3.99, you get highspeed wireless for the month! Not a bad deal.

If you stay in a hotel, though, you can get any taxes paid on the room returned to you if stay longer than either 30 or 31 days. Just don't forget to ask for it. The Extended Stay does it automatically through their corp. hdqs. and they credit your credit card automatically. Barely any aircraft noise (surprisingly), couple of eateries, groc. store 7 mins way, safe neighborhood. Been here 3 weeks and no problems!

Good luck in class!

The Clash

Does anyone know how many people are in the new class and if there will be any more soon?

Hey Clash,

That's where I stayed during initial training. It's about the best deal going, or the Red Roof if you want to be closer to the training center.

There are two more classes planned after the July class. September and October I believe are the class dates. Probably 16 FO's and 8 SO's in each class?

Good Luck,

Kallita Air around the world around the clock!

By the way Connie bought a UPS 100 series B747 coming this fall. A JAL nose loader coming in March and he bought 3 JAL Q powered passenger B747's for the engines and parts. Also looking at 2 Kuwait B747 combies. Will probably be the busiest year for Kalitta Air yet. Get ready to fly!

Welcome,
Last year a few of us brought air mattresses and rented a two bedroom corporate efficiency apartment at Bellridge Apartments for 30 days and used it like a crash pad. For the four of us, we paid just $10/night. Helped out with the study as well. Our time to drive to Kalitta was about 10 minutes. We went back to our apartment a couple of times on our lunch breaks, but most of the time we brown bagged it.

We also had several guys stay at the Candlewood -- they were treated nicely, and the apartments are nice, but you do pay for that. The driving time from the Candlewood is ~20-25 minutes.
I liked what the Mtnflyer said as well. Initial class will be a little longer than 30 days, so you'll have time after you get there to meet~n~greet with your classmates, and possibly chose roommates . . . if you're so inclined.
Run a search on Kalitta, and I'm sure you'll find other info as well.

BTW . . . welcome to the club.

If you can find a partner to split the cost, the Bellridge is the way to go. You'll get your own room. Plus it includes towels, sheets, and cookware in the kitchen. But you will need a car.

Good luck!

I'm in the July class, and I'm looking at Extended Stay or Hampton. We'll see. Looks like training is until the end of August and then we're going to Louiville for sims. Anyone know how long the sims last?

Also.....a few questions for the guys already with Kalitta...

1) What's average first year pay? (FO)
2) Jumpseat with Northwest/Continental?
3) With the amount of aircraft being brought in, will the min days of 17 reduce any?
and last one....
4) How's the new contract look? Have they revised it with the union and company in agreement?

OK...enough.....just curious about a few things prior to coming out...Thanks!!!

1) What's average first year pay? (FO)
$40 per hour 62 hour guarentee
2) Jumpseat with Northwest/Continental?
Yes
3) With the amount of aircraft being brought in, will the min days of 17 reduce any?
Not a chance
and last one....
4) How's the new contract look? Have they revised it with the union and company in agreement?
In the process of...............

Bombinha,
Make sure you go to Sams and buy the 50 pound bag of rice and then stock the pantry with about 100 cans of beans, no one in your family will starve.
Spagetti with tomato juice is cheap too. Don't ask me how I know..........

The sim is about 15 days.....give or take. Usually 5 on 1 off. They airline you from home to Louisville, pay for the hotel and you get per diem.

Hey CWI,
me and my family having been eating this since I arrived in USA 5 years ago and until I finish my IOE it will probably be the only food we ever seen here in US but at least is healthy though.

See you there

Crash Pad for July 11th Class

I am also in the July 11th class and would be interested in splitting a 2-bedroom apartment. Someone had mentioned Bellridge, 2-bedroom @$1200/mo. I am calling them today...

If anyone would be interested please let me know!

Great deal Smooth I'm in. If somebody else interested just PM or post a mesage here to either me or smooth.

Why not save the 25 bucks, buy a pack of colored pencils at Wal-Mart for a dollar, and color in the lights on your company-issued cockpit poster yourself.

You'll accomplish 2 things:
1) You save 24 bucks
2) You become that much more intimately familiar with the panel of said jet, thereby becoming that much more knowledgable of said jet when it comes time for your oral, or more importantly line flying.

Just a thought, that's all.;)
