Alright buds, I want say say that the information on this site has truly assisted me in life descisions and I thank every one of you. Also as the Veterans Day comes to an end, I ask everyone please remember the thousands of lives lost supporting the freedom that we have to b)tch, moan, love and lie on this page. To all my fallen brothers, "I love you" and thank you.

I have had a few opportunities to accept employment in the regional airline industry and turned it down for various personal reasons. I am about to be deactivated from serving in active duty and consider myself blessed that I got a job with Phoenix Air Group Inc. They fly a lot of missions all over the world working with the military acting as a adversary to test our current defense capabilities. Does anyone, have personal experience with the company, and any advice on what it takes to do well with what seems to be a great company to work for. PM if you feel the need to and I thank any response to this post.

That's the lear guys towing droans right?

Seems like a good outfit. The guys I know there love it. A young man's game

Phoenix Air

Be carefull, my brother. Phoenix lost 5 aircraft and crews in the late 80's early 90's. The last one was a Lear in Socal. Ran out of gas, crashed landed in the street. Haven't heard of any recently but, you never know.

I worked for Flight International, same crews, same airplanes, same mission...when Phoenix got the contract out of NZY they picked up the leases on the Lears and all of the crews just changed uniforms.

Seems like a fun job, but more as a time builder than a career, just be careful zinging along at 400 kts & 50'

My advice, just keep the up the tradition. Hellava bunch of guys. Everyone (that I know) that's come from there is a solid, legite flyer, good friends and drinkin' buddies. Good luck to ya'. Though I believe you may be banned from some hotels. Maybe in the Far East, not sure.:)

I worked very closely with Phoenix Air and their predecessor, Flight International, in the early 90s. They are both great companies and some of their flying is as close to fighter aviation as you can get in a bizjet.

Just one small note, while a few of the Phoenix Air Lears are the same airframes used by FI, their equipage is far different. The Phoenix Air ECM suit (spec'd out by your humble correspondent for the second faker contract) was light-years ahead of anything else flying back then, and I bet it's state of the art today.

We spec'd in a GPS and ACARS which was very radical in those days. Mark Thompson, the very dynamic Phoenix Air CEO told me that he didn't think GPS was here to stay and didn't want it on the airplane.

I'm very proud of the small part I played in the faker program, it delivers bang for the buck on an almost Rutan scale

Congrats dude. Hope it works out for you. Another guy I know was hired at XJT and then decided to go fly Lears for Phoenix. He was an F-14 RIO and used to post on this board. If you want his contact info, let me know and I'll put you guys in touch.

Say hi to PM for me.

I realize this thread is a few months old, but the Lear in SoCal did not run out of gas. Get your facts straight before spouting off.

That was sad what happened. The co-pilot was a bud of mine. Saw some pictures he took that were real cool and he was having the time of his life.

The crew was completely blameless in that accident.

Did you ever get hired? If so, where based?

What is the key to getting on with Phoenix? I'm currently flying the Lear and would be interested in this type of flying.

You would most likely need to move to Cartersville, Georgia. There are a few domiciles, but all are taken right now. You will need to be very flexible for calls any time of the day or night.

If you dont mind flying over the ocean at 50 to 500' heading toward a Navy ship, or towing targets and getting shot at, you will fit right in.

We also do the normal stuff ie: pass charters, air amb, oh and forgot, if you don't mind hauling explosives all over the world, again , you will fit right in.

Most anybody can fly the planes, but you need to show to management that you can adapt and fit in with the other pilots and employees.

You may in any given week, fly a bomb haul to Norway, an air amb. to Kuwait, tow targets off of Virginia, or haul cargo to Central America.

Hope this helps

I haven't thought about Phoenix Air for a long time. My father flew for them in the '80's, he seemed to enjoy himself until the mid-air near San Clemente in '86. That killed him and 3? 4? others. Don't expect the company to do anything for your family but sign that last paycheck.

Phoenix is in an odd business; don't get complacent.

Was that a Phoenix Air accident? Don't recall that one.
