Anyone do it? I see that they charge 200/board one way, which is ridiculous, I can buy a board there and sell it back for that price. I have jumped many times with boards on other airlines with fees and they have waved them, maybe help due to chocolate and candies, but never jumped USAIR with boards.

Thanks

I would think that if you get thru security with it (which isn't a problem) and your JSing then they will just put a blue valet tag on it (mainline flights) at the gate and toss it underneath and you will get it back at the jetway after the flight.

Do you have a hard case for it? I wouldn't put my board in the cargo hold with just one of those soft padded bags.

just take it through security. The TSA has no authority to tell you what size items you can bring, especially if you're in uniform. Then they will gate check it. Thats what I do with my snowboard.

Where are you trying to jump from? I'd get a pretty good chuckle to see a guy in uniform in JFK carrying around a surfboard.

Continental used to have the most reasonable charges for surfboards (up to 9'0"), but I haven't checked in a while and I never tried to jump with one. I'm spoiled now that I'm in corporate, since I can carry my bike or board with me anywhere we go.

I have jumped on US Airways a few times with surfboards, and was not charged. In fact, I have never been charged by any carrier for boards while jumpseating. Never tried taking them through security...can't imagine TSA's reaction. I always just checked 'em at the ticket counter, it's hard enough maneuvering a coffin full of boards to the ticket counter (let alone the gate). YMMV, have a fun trip!

Reminds me of when I JSed on USAir with a motorcycle helmet under my arm. ORF to PIT in 1999. I had purchased a old Suzuki 2 stroke road bike and was heading up to get it and ride it back home. When I asked the Capt for the ride he looked at the helmet, I told him what I was up to he laughed and said "All right"!!!!

I still own the bike and I completed a restoration this last Winter.
