How do you know it flamed out. Looks more like a surge bleed valve issue than a flame out.

I was there when it happened. They aborted, taxied back, and took off again in less than 10 minutes! It was a fairly high speed abort, I'd say they were above 80kts. Wonder if they even looked a brake cooling charts or a QRH for the compressor stall? They were probably pretty light, but still...

I don't know much about the 707, but if that woulda happened on my Diesel-9 it would have been a mandatory return to gate and MX write-up per company rules.

I'm guessing a part 91 B-707 plays by different rules? Heck, 'Ol Johnny boy may not have even been at the controls that evening... Thats all for my monday morning q-backing.

My dad flew the 707 and a couple of times when the starter was inop, they could do a highspeed run to get the blades spinning and start the engine. He said it wasn't the greatest idea but most of the time it worked. I watched John Travolta do a highspeed run and then return for takeoff in Wilmington NC. a couple of years ago and the tower said he was starting the engine. It didn't make much sense until I was telling my dad about it and he said they did it a few times.

Could the flame from the engine be when he introduced fuel? Some modern jets blow some flame at light off.
